]]> Being artistic is not only about skills, but the different ways in which you can express what’s on your mind. An illustrator who goes by the name paperboyo expresses what he sees in ordinary (and some famous) buildings with simple paper designs that completely transform the original places.

He starts with a photo of a building or an object he sees differently than the rest of us. He then adds shapes that transform them into something else. Scroll down to see some of his work and follow him on Instagram for more.

Back in 1998 France loaned Japan their Statue of Liberty (from it's home in Paris) to celebrate Franco-Japanese ties. The Statue went back home in 1999 but it was so popular that a replica was made so now she's here permanently in Tokyo. There's also a Statue of Liberty in Las Vegas which, in 2010, the US Postal Service mistook for the real one in New York and printed on it's stamps. However it's not an exact replica so the artist behind the sculpture, believing his statue's features to be different enough, sued the US Postal Service for illegally using his design. A federal court agreed with him and ordered the post office pay him $3.5m in compensation! So to make sure I don't get in any copyright trouble I've embellished this one here in Tokyo with my own design đź—˝#TokyoTokyo @TokyoTokyoOldMeetsNew #StatueOfLiberty #Odaiba #ad

I’ve teamed up with @surface_uk again to make some noise (in this case jangly banjo noise) about the release of the new Matte Black Surface Pro 6. I'd like to pretend it's a bespoke design inspired by my cut-outs, but the reality is it’s available in matte black to everyone. Anyway it seemed vaguely appropriate to head somewhere with black in the name to use the device, so here's a shot from Blackpool Beach. I was there over the weekend and managed to catch some pretty amazing sunrises #anythingbutordinary I’m going to be adding my own touch to some of your photos with the Matte Black Surface Pro 6 today. Right in the heart of Shinjuku there's a massive Penguin- well I see it as a Penguin but it's meant to look like a Cocoon. It's Mode Gakuen's vertical university campus and the design was inspired around the concept of an incubator like space where students grow, transform and then flutter off into the world (metaphorically I'm guessing…unless they're being taught some kinda revolutionary flying technique in class. Imagine that on graduation day, instead of throwing their caps in the air they throw themselves in the air!) I digress. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah- Cool building, cool concept, cool design but just once can someone, somewhere please build a massive Penguin. K'Thanks. The funny thing about making your hobby your career is that you realise you need to pick up a new hobby- although that's pretty tough because you're putting all your time and energy into making your new career work. Having worked for myself a couple of years now I've learnt to make time for new hobbies – hobbies like skiing, something I never did as a kid and really want to indulge in more. It's not exactly a cheap hobby though so if someone asked 'what would you do if you won ÂŁ10k every month?' I'd probably still spend a lot of time on my photography but I'd be able to afford more time spent on the slopes too…and then maybe finally I could do a black run without sweating in fear all the way down! #ad #SetForLifeTNL #AmazingStartsHere @tnluk

AD Been meaning to make a Popeye idea work for ages- when I was in Basel last year I tried to turn the BIS building into a giant spinach can but totally failed & another time I tried to make a tree look like spinach being squeezed out of a can but that looked crap. The street signs here in Austin loaned themselves nicely to a Popeye idea though. I was trying to find a fun fact to link him to Austin for this caption and all I could find was the fact that the nearby 'Crystal City' erected a statue of Popeye in 1937 to honour the fact his popularity boosted their spinach industry. (I say nearby City, it's about 200 miles away from Austin but honestly this was the best I could do to try and link the two) #UnitedStories @visittheusa @visitaustintx #TrueAustin #Popeye

A great example of how these buildings can be transformed can be seen in Detroit. A local artist, Louise Jones, is painting floral murals on boring buildings, improving the overall look of the city. She’s also painted on buildings all over the world, from New York to Shanghai.

“Flowers are a vehicle for me to explore color and shapes. They remind me so much of my own body — they’re very feminine,” Jones says. “I consider myself to be feminine but haven’t always felt that way. As I get older, I’ve learned to embrace my femininity, and I find myself increasingly drawn to flowers with age.”

I am happy to announce that my biggest project to date has been completed. “Wildflowers for Buffalo” features echinacea, red clover, Queen Anne’s lace, pussy willow, thistle, swamp rose, yarrow, lamb’s quarters, straw flower, and chicory. Thank you @albrightknox for bringing me to Buffalo and the whole mural team for your hard work. I had way too much fun out there, and I hope to see you all again – you know who you all are!!
