Crochet is a truly unique form of self-expression, and Anneli Xie and Aleksander Jaworowski will make you see it in a whole new light. This duo found viral success with their crochet brand Wool & Buggers, and their adorable designs will inspire you to nurture your inner child.

Xie and Jaworowski kicked off their crochet journey from their small student apartment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their brand Wool & Buggers was born out of a process of sheltering and homemaking after crocheting brought them peace during this difficult time.

“Wool & Buggers is a dedicated space for diligence and process. A shelter for failure and experimentation. Aleksander refining his fly-tying skills, Anneli dabbling in crochet and fiber arts. These two such seemingly disparate crafts that to us have become so intertwined an extension and elongation of who we are and what is sacred,” they write on their official website.

Wool & Buggers became a true internet sensation thanks to their silly crochet designs, often inspired by the animal world. They’re best known for their series of “Quack Couture” patterns inspired by ducks, and they’re encouraging all the crochet lovers out there to try recreating their designs. Many of their signature crochet patterns can be bought on their official website, in addition to being available on their Etsy page.

We’re all familiar with crochet in one form or the other, but have you heard about the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting called amigurumi? This technique is used for creating small stuffed figures and it’s becoming more and more popular around the world.

Ukrainian artist Tanya Zhylyayeva uses amigurumi to create adorable birds that look exactly like real animals. Her intricate colorful creatures are around seven inches tall and they can perch on your finger just like a real bird.

“All the children and their parents love crocheted toys and I love them too. But what I love the most is to create toys. I love bright and funny parrots, scary raven, cardinal birds, and doves,” Zhylyayeva wrote on her Etsy shop.

Zhylyayeva’s flock includes birds like cockatiels, budgies, conures, palm and white cockatoos and you order any of these models on her Etsy shop. The artist is also open to custom orders, which means you can get a crochet model of your adorable pet.

Check out her creations in the photos below.

Australia-native council worker Trevor Smith has an intriguing hobby. He loves to work with crocheted wool and creates unusual and impressive crochet items that you don’t get to see every day.

Smith draws inspiration for his artwork from his retro-domestic nostalgia and makes crochet replicas of household appliances and food like hair dryers, toasters, cakes, salads, and much more. Besides crochet, he also uses foam armatures and rubber in order to make sure his pieces get as close to the real thing as much as possible.

According to this talented artist, who holds a Visual Arts degree, his mother was the one responsible for his artistic tendencies.

“My mother was a talented craftswoman and I was always shadowing her, wanting to be doing what she was doing,” – explained Smith in a talk with The Design Files.

Smith’s works received a lot of attention on social media, and he recently decided to present some of his crafts in a joint exhibition with textile artist Kristen Fredericks. He is also planning on doing a solo show in the near future.

Check out some of Smith’s works below.
