We saw numerous times that embroidery artists can do some pretty amazing and impressive things with threads and needles. But the work of Danielle Clough might top all of that.

While many embroiderers tend to be inspired by nature or fashion, this South Africa-based artist took a different route and chose pop culture as her main source of inspiration. Clough creates impressive embroidery portraits of pop culture icons like Fresh Prince from Bel Air, The Dude and Notorious B.I.G that are incredibly detailed. Besides this, she also occasionally does embroidery flower arrangements as well as other motifs like skulls and animals.

Check out some of Clough’s works below.

Stephanie K. Clark describes herself as a painter, but she’s not your ordinary artist. The works she creates are not made with traditional painting medium, instead, she paints with a thread.

β€œThe embroidery floss is my palette and the needle is my paintbrush. Embroidery has had its way with me, leading me from hobby to art. My work is an ode and influenced by the worlds of tapestry and my love for the craft. Using a thread instead of oils has allowed me to bring new purpose to my painting process,” she wrote on her website.

Using embroidery techniques and strands of colorful floss, Clark paints intricate landscapes, tiny houses and other sceneries that look like conventional paintings but once you get a closer look, you can see vibrant threads intertwined creating a beautiful work of art. According to Clark, the number of hours needed to complete one piece depends on the size and details. For example, large landscapes require up to 20 hours but a small house will take between 6 to 12 hours to finish.

Her thread paintings are based on her work commissions and also inspired by her personal life.
