By covering people’s faces or adding tiny details to their clothes, the artist gives the images a new meaning and life to each piece. This chap was the first of my current collection to find his forever home @theotherartfair on Thursday night. ? I originally found this photo @camberwell_sunday_market in Melbourne from a vintage photo seller who had suitcases stuffed full of old photos. I spent an hour sifting through all three cases before I found him, with beaten and creased edges, but beautiful gaze intact. As the seller reviewed and counted all my pieces, she lit up, her mouth cracking open with a big smile, as she saw him in my stack. I regret not asking her why she did. I thought maybe he was some Australian celebrity that I didn't know…but now I'll never know, and maybe it's all the better for the mystery…(or should I get a reddit investigation going?!) ?

“There’s thousands upon thousands of vintage photos stuffed inside dusty boxes at these markets—long lost and forgotten by their families, so my work is an attempt to bring them back to life and renew their stories,” the artist shared to Colossal. “I’m particularly drawn to images that offer a deeper story—photographs with haunting faces and figures, simple landscapes that can be magically transformed with added dimension and color.”

Cao shares her work on her Instagram profile where she has attracted more than 89,000 followers as well as on her personal website.

"The water's edge" Last commission of the year! From the sparkly still waters in the background to the magical waves in the fore, I found myself melting into the beautiful scene many times while I worked on this. It'll arrive just in the nick of time for ??. . This is also the last piece I will create in Palm Springs!! After a stressful last few weeks of house hunting (which resembles online dating in so many ways – will it look like the photos? / It's so good and we can have it…what's wrong with it? / Will they like what we have to offer? / Why don't they like us – what does that other applicant have that we don't?! ? ?) . But finally we have signed a lease for Irvine, CA, and moving in after Christmas. It's not my favorite place by any means (sometimes in dating, one just settles ?), but I'm determined to focus on the positive next year, and look forward to having my own creative space to really let loose. We've been living out of suitcases for five months (!!) so it'll just be a relief to finally unpack and let loose ? Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a brilliant, restful holiday ? – there's so much to look forward to for 2020!

The last piece I sold from @theotherartfair on Sunday was 'Dandelions', which was my absolute favorite piece from the show, and I honestly couldn't have picked a lovelier collector to take this piece home. It was probably the oldest postcard from the collection, poststamped in 1914 with a British half penny stamp! Swipe to see the full back of the postcard with beautiful German script now forever tangled underneath layers of cotton thread. Thanks to the wonderful @theotherartfair team (@nicolegarton @emmawarren8 @sashaali128 @emmaannelloyd ) for all their support during the show. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience! I've met so many fellow artists and learned so much from them in just the past four days – definitely the most invaluable part of the fair ?
