27-year-old Jana Hildreth from Seattle describes herself as a realist portrait artist, focusing on the human condition. She is also a survivor of PTSD and Major Depression, fighting her mental illnesses with Art Therapy. Hildreth has been dreaming of becoming an artist her whole life, however, unfortunately after the trauma she had been through, she couldn’t even pick up a brush.

“Art Therapy has become my lifeline,” the young artist shared on Bored Panda. “I found strength and healing through the creative power of artistic expression. For me, art is an escape to my Wonderland, my refuge from the world and my mental illness.”

In her work, the artist usually paints portraits of people who have lost their battles due to mental health.

“It is important to shed light on the mental health crisis,” she added. “I am a survivor, and my art is a raw reflection of my own struggles as well as the beautiful journey to recovery. We can all heal and grow through art.”
