When artist Laurence Le Constant worked at prestigious haute couture workshops such as Chanel, Dior, Emmanuel Ungaro, and Prada, she worked a lot with feathers. She would ask embroiderers and feather workers to teach her the craft during breaks.

In 2010, she decided to focus completely to her own work and finally allowed herself to show an incredible artwork that was just waiting to be revealed.

At the same year, her grandmother passed away and she created her first skull sculpture as a memorial, spending lots of hours of works selecting and attaching feathers to a resin base.

“With the series ‘My Lovely Bones,’ I became the Huesera, or the ‘bone lady. Like this mythical creature from the Mexican folk tales, which roams the desert to collect bones and bring back life through its singing, I bring the magnified skulls of women back from the afterlife, giving them a new life and a new voice,” Le Constant told Colossal.

Le Constant assured everyone that the feathers she uses are not from protected or endanger birds, rather, she sources them from animals farmed for the food industry in Europe.
