]]> PBS has recently published a documentary called Octopus: Making Contact. In it, you can see an octopus that’s been studied by Dr. David Scheel for years. Dr. Scheel, the marine biologist who worked on the documentary, explains why the octopus is changing color while sleeping. He believes that the octopus in the video is dreaming about hunting, which is why she starts changing color as if she wanted to camouflage.

“So here she’s asleep, she sees a crab and her color starts to change a little bit,” Dr. Scheel told Laughing Squid. “Then she turns all dark. Octopuses will do that when they leave the bottom. This really is fascinating.”

Dr. Scheel studied the octopus from the documentary for years in order to learn more about these fascinating animals. You can see the part with it changing color in the video below and you can see the full documentary here.
