]]> Model and cancer survivor Mama Cāx is a worthy fashion icon. After being diagnosed with bone and lung cancer at the age of 14, she had her leg amputated at the hip. Now, well into her 20’s, she has a steady career in fashion and has even walked the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.

Instagram vs reality. . Last week, Kin Travel and The International Fun for Animal Welfare (IFAW) invited me to Cape Cod for a long weekend of relaxation while learning about IFAW’s work to protect marine mammals… Beside getting a little dolphin rescue training, and whale watching on #worldoceansday , The rest of the trip was spent drinking rosé, slurping fresh oysters and sunset camping at the sand dunes. I ended the trip knowing that I had made some wonderful friends but even more important a deep sense of responsibility to reduce my foot print and live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. “There are very few people with disabilities in the fashion industry let alone the catwalk so when the opportunity came up I didn’t hesitate,” she said in an interview with Create & Cultivate. “I knew it would be a way to break barriers and help open doors for others by showing it is possible.”

“People often assume that I’m an extremely positive person; the truth is I’m quite the pessimist,” she added. “But I’m very goal-oriented and ambitious. I think what often keeps me going is knowing that I can’t change the past and the future is not guaranteed, therefore I have no choice but to make the best of the present.”

In addition to being a model, she’s also taken to wheelchair basketball, rock climbing, and running, proving that she’s indeed making the best out of the present. Check out her Instagram page for a daily dose of swag.

Once in a while I stumble on one of my workout pictures on a random ig page or fb post with captions like “ if she can do it, so can you”, “what’s your excuse” or “stop complaining.” Here are a list of reasons as to why some people don’t workout : You have a Busy Schedule. You can’t exercise at home and gym membership is too expensive You Hate Exercise Exercise Is Painful You have chronic Pain Depression or anxiety is preventing you from doing anything You can afford the gym but it’s all men and you don’t feel comfortable in that space You simply don’t want to exercise #mamacax . Do what you can with what you have but most importantly go at your own pace . How can you stop contributing to inspiration porn? I’m glad you asked, just stop liking/sharing them. ]]> Veronica Beauchamp is a young model and actress who has been suffering from Systemic Lupus and Mixed Connective Tissue Disease for almost three years now.

During her battle with these illnesses, Beauchamp lost her hair and received a lot of criticism from her high-school peers. However, it didn’t stop her from becoming a model and attending a beauty pageant wearing a wig.

“It took me a long time to realize it didn’t matter what others said or thought about me,” Beauchamp shared on Bored Panda. “It was an uphill battle for me to realize that the only way to be truly happy with who you are is to block out what negative people say about you. You can’t count on others for your own happiness. Be who you want to be and let go of those who would rather see you fail.”

She is currently attending college, however, her goal is to model around the world.
