We’ve finally left 2024 in the rearview mirror, but the countless viral hits this year has given us are here to stay. The race for Spotify’s most-streamed song of the year was unpredictable until the very last minute, but Billie Eilish eventually managed to swoop in and take the top spot with “Birds of a Feather”.

Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” was a strong contender for the most-streamed song of 2024 after being hailed the song of the summer, but “Birds of a Feather” managed to catch up on the last day of the year. It surpassed it by just 650,000 streams, according to Chart Data, and it currently has over 1,775,000,000 streams on Spotify.

Both songs became a viral sensation in 2024 – “Espresso” made a splash with its catchy beat and silly lyrics, while “Birds of a Feather” first went viral after being featured in a Heartstopper teaser before being released as a single. Surprisingly enough, neither song managed to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart – “Birds of a Feather” took a back seat to Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” at No. 2, while “Espresso” peaked at No. 3 behind Carpenter’s own “Please Please Please”.

The rest of Spotify’s list of the most-streamed songs of 2024 includes many viral hits this year will be remembered by, including Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die with a Smile”, and “Gate Only” by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ.

Spotify Wrapped is one of the year’s most highly-anticipated moments in the world of music, and there was a lot of hype leading up to this year’s announcement. After months of anticipation, Spotify finally wrapped up 2024 by letting us get a compilation of our most listened songs, albums, and artists – but some people aren’t happy about the way things turned out.

As 2024 came to a close, music lovers couldn’t wait for their favorite audio streaming service to finally unveil Spotify Wrapped, and that moment finally arrived on December 4. Everyone instantly started sharing their states for 2024 on social media, but some people on X (formerly known as Twitter) weren’t too pleased with it. They mostly criticized the graphics and data presented, feeling that Spotify Wrapped looked much better and offered more fun states in the past few years.

Taylor Swift was crowned this year’s most-streamed artist for a second year in a row, while The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology was named the most-streamed album of the year. It was also a year to remember for Sabrina Carpenter, whose smash hit “Espresso” was named the most-streamed song of the year, ahead of “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone and “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish.
