Have you ever wondered what would your favorite superhero would buy at the supermarket if they existed in the real world? French illustrator and character designer, Linda Bouderbala, creates funny and realistic illustrations that feature famous movie and cartoon characters set in slightly different environments from the ones we are used to seeing them in.

Inspired by the heroes of her childhood, Linda portrays different cartoon and movie characters as they exist in the world we live in and perform the usual daily activities we perform – such as grocery shopping.

Every character is depicted standing at the supermarket’s cash register buying a different product according to his needs. The characters are represented as “funny customers” shopping for groceries that symbolize today’s consumeristic society.

For example, you can see the strong Popeye buying canned spinach, likable Chewbacca from Star Wars buying a shampoo, Professor Utonium buying sugar, the serious Pennywise the Dancing Clown buying red balloons, Super Mario buying mushrooms, Sadness from Inside Out buying 3 ply tissues and the lovely Minions buying bananas.

In 2017, British artist Lucy Sparrow opened a temporary installation 8 ‘Til Late in Manhattan, which was basically a convenience store filled with handmade felt items. A year later, she had enough items to open an entire supermarket, so that’s what she did.

Sparrow’s supermarket is located in Downtown LA and filled with replicas of everyday items. Numerous shelves contain many different brands of bagged food, canned food, frozen food, etc. There’s also ‘fresh’ produce and all types of drinks.

To see what else is available in this unique and quirky supermarket, see the video and photos below.
