]]>Abakumova’s algorithm first analyses the artwork and then converts the image into a knitting pattern that she then does by hand.
“Without a computer programme it would not be possible for the human eye to create something like this.” – Abakumova says about her project. “My programme analyses millions of possibilities of how to place the threads and when it finds the result that best matches the photograph it stops counting.”
While there are lots of programmers that do similar projects like her, Abakumova adds that she is the only one who incorporates color into her works. All others are still working with only black threads.
So far, Abakumova did recreations of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, and many others. Check out some of them below.
