Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel, known for his colorful murals and art installations, recently presented an intriguing new project curated by global creative house Just Kids.

As part of the Unexpected, ongoing art festival which aims to bring urban and contemporary art to Arkansas, San Miguel decided to take a neglected house in a remote part of Fort Smith and turn it into an art installation.

The art installation features San Miguel’s recognizable style of using colorful geometric shapes and lines. The house also has what appear to be animal portraits painted on the front end as well.

“This project gave me the possibility to expand on my previous work, adding in more architectonic dimension and completing my vision of mythical animals,” the artist said about the project.

Since the art installation is placed in the proximity of Darby Junior High, San Miguel hopes his creation will “play into the daily lives of the neighboring community and students” and that “they will get to enjoy the installation and watch as it evolves through the seasons.”

Street art festival Unexpected, which took place in Fort Smith, Arkansas, hosted numerous intriguing art projects this year, but everyone’s favorite was definitely Walala Pump & Go by French artist Camille Walala.

As her contribution to the festival, Walala decided to transform an old gas station into a colorful art installation. By using her distinctive pop style, characterized by vibrant geometrical patterns, she managed to highlight the building’s vintage characteristics while turning it into an architectural standout.

“I love this canvas — it was exciting to do something really bold, that stands out on a bigger scale,” said Walala. “We had a great team of people working with us for a few days, most of them were locals from Fort Smith who came to help and it has been an amazing execution of the project.”

Check out Walala’s process of making the installation and the finished piece below.
