]]>This week, we present you with Jessica Merchant. The mastermind behind the hugely successful food blog How Sweet Eats, Merchant has amassed over 500,000 fans on Instagram (and counting!). Scrolling through her page, you’ll easily get hooked.
Merchant’s blog and accompanying Instagram offers anything from healthy recipes to comfort food and indulgent desserts to cocktails and mocktails. “One of my main points is to not be afraid to make things your own,” she told Bakepedia.
Merchant puts her money where her mouth is. A self-taught cook, she taught herself the ins and out of cooking and baking through trial and error. According to Merchant, she makes upwards of six recipes per day and tests most of her recipes at least once.
“My desserts aren’t as precise as many [dessert recipes], and a lot of them allow you to swap things in and out,” she admits. She adds that “it’s all about trial and error; that’s how I learned to bake. So don’t be afraid!”
Get your hands—and feed—messy by following her on Instagram. You can also purchase her best-selling cookbooks, Seriously Delish, and The Pretty Dish.

]]>Born in Taiwan, raised in Vancouver-raised, and slow-aged in New York, Lee is currently based in Hong Kong with her husband and pups (her blog, aptly named Lady and Pups, suggests the central role both food and dogs has in her life).
Her cultural background comes to place in the dishes themselves, which act as a sort of homage for her mixed heritage. “Even a Nutella sandwich has codes to be cracked,” says Lee. “For the life of me, I don’t understand why people cook if they don’t enjoy the fundamental aspects of it.”
With so many of us craving to crack the code of cooking, Lee’s recipes come in handy. Featured mainly on her blog, Lee also shares her tip and tricks with other publications, including Saveur, FoodandWine.com, Yahoo, Food 52, and the WashingtonPost.

]]>“I don’t cut down trees for the wood I need,” Babii explained in an interview with the Etsy blog. Instead, he collects fallen trees and logs cast off from construction sites, making his work both sustainable and waste-free. “I also try to be as efficient as possible with how I use the wood I have,” he notes. “I don’t necessarily think that we must only use natural materials in our lives, but I do think we should be quite careful about which materials we use and how our choices influence our life and the life of our surroundings.”
“I like working with my senses,” says Babii, “the materials, and the function and requirements of the piece to create the best possible combination—something that distills the very best of everything and keeps only the most necessary elements. Sometimes good design happens fast and coincidentally, but often it’s the result of long and hard work with a lot of fails. But it’s always so inspiring to create. It’s the most valuable time in my life.”
According to Babii, he’s most inspired in the mornings, when he goes for his daily run through the fields and mountains — rain or shine. “I like mornings so much,” he says, “they are births, beginnings, full of energy and opportunities.” He also feels inspired while designing, realizing an idea and then bringing it to life.
