]]>Putra’s pieces look like a Salvador Dali fever-dream. The artist takes conventional landscapes and scenes and warps them with his digital tools. Surrealism has been popular for over a century, starting with the likes of Dali and Picasso, but Putra takes it a step further with his state-of-the-art modern digital tools and incredible skill. Each picture seems completely realistic, only some aspect of it is warped – the beach bends and shoots for the sky, the road folds on itself, or the river is neon green.
The pictures are so awe-inspiring that it can take a while to take it all in and sort out your emotions. They can be terrifying – in some, a boat is stirring towards a clean-cut, 90 degrees pitfall, or a person is walking with hid head down straight into a brick wall that used to be the road beneath his feet. But the can also be pure joy, turning the entire world into a funhouse.

]]>Each year, a nonprofit Neutral Correlate Society picks one best illusion from the applications that come to their contest. This year, the winner is Frank Force and his illusion is Dual Axis, a loop animation that changes the moving direction from clockwise to counterclockwise, to up or down, all depending on how you’re looking at it.

Force is a game developer who lives in Austin. “I’ve worked on DOOM, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Psi-Ops, and Starhawk,” he shared with Motherboard. “A little over a year ago I decided to quit my job to focus more on the creative side of things and learn some new skills.”
Programming his illusion took a day while figuring out how to present it in the best way was the tricky part. He posted the code to GitHub for everyone who may be interested.

This artist has also created some notable looks in recent times, and she posts them to her Instagram page with thousands of followers. She has worked on creating visual illusions by painting her face upside down. She also transformed herself into the Grinch.
