]]>After working some time as a freelance fashion designer as well as a jewelry designer, and even opening her first jewelry business, Shearer decided she wanted to start from fresh, with a new focus. “I wanted a new business where I could apply everything I had learnt, that didn’t show my history of rookie mistakes,” she admits.
That fresh start turned out to be House Of Wonderland — a brand that designs colorful gifts that include greeting cards, enamel pins, phone cases, and – of course — jewelry. “I started the amazing House of Wonderland in 2012, and since then our lives have never been the same,” says Shearer. “My mission ties in with the business name,” she says, explaining that she wants to become the home of wonderful things. “I want people to have something in their lives that they can look at and remember that they are awesome and they have people that love them,” she further relayed.
“I had to start with selling some simple beaded earrings, although completely different to where I am now, it was enough to get through the first few years which were a bit of a struggle,” she admits. “I consider my entire business and a huge achievement! I still find it hard to believe I’ve been able to get where I am today, doing the things I love.”
We’re all for her positive vibes.

]]>By combining her bold artwork with relatable and honest captions Swift has grown a loyal Instagram following of over 200k people. She also enjoys content creation and has collaborated with various companies with designs that include anything from social media content to pin badges and playing cards.
“All of my work starts out as a rough idea in a sketchbook or on a loose sheet of paper,” she shared with The Smuggler, talking about her creative process. “I’m not one of these people who have beautifully presented sketchbooks! Scribbled roughs are usually followed by some internet research for image references from which I begin to make pencil drawings. When I am happy with those I reproduce a final version of the drawing in black fineliner and scan the images into Photoshop to color, edit and compose my finished artwork.”
“When I was very little I wanted to be a hot dog lady,” she recalled. “Then I wanted to be a journalist. Then a lingerie designer. I hadn’t even considered illustration as an option until I was almost 20 and when I was 23 that I went back to study illustration.”
“I’d like to think that my sentimental nature and sense of humour come across in my work so hopefully they are representative of those elements of my personality,” she says. Take a look at some of her delightful illustrations and mantras, and follow her Instagram page for more.
