The post UFOs Visit Earth’s Beautiful Landscapes in Caroline Dewison’s Miniature Dioramas appeared first on PlayJunkie.
]]>For her latest series of dioramas, Dewison used unidentified flying objects and her fascination with the possibility of extraterrestrial life as a source of inspiration. Tiny 3D spacecrafts are shown paying a visit to Earth’s beautiful landscapes, which Dewison hand paints on the diorama backgrounds. This combination of 3D and two-dimensional elements contributes a great amount of depth to the pieces.
“In my lifetime, it’s gone from there being just us to scientists finding hundreds and thousands of exoplanets, many with the possibility of life. I would like to think that we’re not alone,” Dewison shares about the project.
Dewison also created various automata pieces on the same subject. In these pieces, UFOs are circling above a pond or performing choreographies in the sky with just a simple pull of a lever.
The majority of Dewison’s creations are handmade. She uses various materials, including plywood, Jesmonite composite material, acrylic paints, and clay, to bring her vision to life. However, she also turns to 3D-printing pen for more demanding elements.

]]>Thompson-Lee creates colorful ceramic mugs with unusual handles. While the body of these mugs usually follows the traditional shape, its handles are on the abstract side. With their unusual and unpredictable shapes, they look like they are growing out of the mug on a whim.
While some shapes might seem impractical, they also open up an opportunity to experiment with different ways to hold a mug.
According to Thompson-Lee, the shapes of the handles found on her mugs are actually based on organic forms. They are inspired by artist’s observations of “microorganisms, fungi, coral, rock formations, the human body, and insects. “
Still, Thompson-Lee never knows how each piece will turn out before she starts making it. She adopted a playful and experimental approach, which she refers to as “drawing with clay,” which allows her creativity and moments of inspiration to take charge and ensure unique pieces.
“This unpredictability is both an important and enjoyable part of the process; each design is unique, “Thompson-Lee shared in her artist statement.

]]>The hyper-realistic sculpture, called “Dinosaur,” shows a 16-foot-tall pigeon that is cast out of aluminum. The piece is situated on the High Line Plinth at the Spur, at 30th St. and 10th Ave.
According to Argote, the name of the sculpture refers to both its size and the pigeon’s ancestors, dinosaurs.
“Like them, one day we won’t be around anymore, but perhaps a remnant of humanity will live on—as pigeons do—in the dark corners and gaps of future worlds. I feel this sculpture could generate an uncanny feeling of attraction, seduction, and fear among the inhabitants of New York,” Argote said in a statement.
Argote spent roughly five years working on this gigantic sculpture. The process included research, making designs, gathering material, and actually creating the piece. He estimates it took him a year and a half just to build the “Dinasour.”
Make sure to visit the High Line Plinth to check out Argote’s impressive sculpture, but do it soon because it will remain there only until early 2026.

]]>Seoul Robot & AI Museum makes its purpose clear with a futuristic building designed by Turkish studio Melike Altınışık Architects.
“The museum’s spherical, non-directional form is characterized by fluid, organic shapes that resonate with the advanced technologies housed within,” the studio explains.
The building resembles a spaceship and actively contributes to the experience through smart systems that are “woven” into its design and operation. This includes the combination of panels that can serve as a screen for content display.
“It’s like the building itself is alive, interacting with visitors to enhance their experience at every turn,” Melike Altınışık Architects add.
The museum’s vision is to introduce visitors to the latest technological advancements and gadgets while helping them “build connections” with the technology that will play a crucial role in shaping their future.
Seoul Robot & AI Museum might be the first of its kind, but it surely won’t be the only one. There are plans to build several other similar museums across Seoul that can communicate and collaborate with each other.
