Spanish artist Andoni Bastarrika is so good at making sand sculptures of animals that they look like the real thing. His craft and attention to detail continuously amaze social media users and art festival visitors, and it will definitely have the same effect on you.
Bastarrika’s sand art journey began in 2010 when he was visiting the beach with his two daughters. In order to entertain them, he created a sand sculpture of a mermaid. It was then he discovered that he had a knack for making sand sculptures and has been doing it ever since.
Bastarrika, who usually spends between several hours to a couple of days working on a single piece, specializes in sand sculptures of animals. Whether it’s dogs, elephants, or sea creatures like squids and sharks, no challenge is too big for this talented artist.
“The sand fascinates me because no matter how you look at it, it will always teach you things if you are willing to learn,” Bastarrika shared. “In order to create a sculpture, an unthinkable number of sand particles participate, hugging each other tightly through humidity, so that someone could model their union.”
