Using vibrant and juxtaposing colors, artist Emily Powell creates art that inspires positive and emotive responses in people. She finds inspiration in the sea that she looks at from her studio balcony and the berries she sees in her daily walks.

Powell has been painting since she was seven years old when her father passed away. Using bright colors was her way of bringing joy back into the lives of her and her family. She was very young when she learned that art can bring beauty and happiness to people.

Powell has been selling her work through Instagram and her sales increased during the lockdown. People find her art to be just the thing their homes are missing during these harsh times.

The artist spends her days and creates magic in a four-story fisherman’s cottage in Brixham, England. Her studio is set on the top floor and gives her a great view of the sea and the boats, which can be noticed in her art.

We were truly impressed by The Epic Symphonic Orchestra performing their version of music from the legendary Mario Bros. video game. As they were playing the medley, a film of the game played on the big screen behind them. The five-minute video of the performance is an amazing tribute to the famous game, as all its fans will agree.

“This video is inspired by the music of our most beloved videogame. Ranging almost three generations of gamers this is our humble tribute to the hours, days, months spent playing every Mario Bros game,” reads the video description.

We can only imagine how much fun it was for everyone in the orchestra to recreate the music and bring back many amazing childhood memories! The style of the video gives it a vintage vibe we absolutely love. We can’t wait to see what else this wonderful crew will come up with! Click play below to watch the video.

Everything gets much cuter when you add a face to it, don’t you think? Taiwanese artist Fan Yanting does just that to the minimalistic ceramic items he makes. His mugs, vases, and vessels gain emotion through faces he sculpts on them. The artist never tries to decide which emotion he will show on a certain item.

“I empty my mind when I’m sculpting the human faces. I might plan the pottery shape and maybe where I’d like to position the face, but I don’t start with specific character designs in mind,” Yanting told Neocha.

Through the expressions on his ceramics, the artist gives his audience a chance to draw their own conclusions about the emotions behind them. He’s fascinated by the fact that certain sculptures remind people of someone they know and associate with certain emotions based on that, so one piece can be seen in a different way by different people.

Alvaro Gracia Montoya of MetaBallStudios created a terrifying animation that shows how the size of asteroids compares to some other things.

The video starts with an image of a human next to one of the smaller rocks and continues by showing bigger and bigger asteroids compared to a truck, a house, and a city landscape. In a matter of seconds, we get to see the big asteroids that could easily cover the entire city like New York.

If you’re not scared by what you see in the video, remember that in 2018, the B612 Foundation told The Daily Star that “it’s 100 percent certain we’ll be hit, but we’re not 100 percent sure when.” This was the same year when Stephen Hawking wrote that asteroids are the Earth’s biggest threat in his last book Brief Answers to the Big Questions.

Artist Joshua Flint’s paintings feature blurry lines and unrecognizable faces as he explores the link between the interiority and exteriority of human movement.

“These paintings have a loose narrative of exploring this unknown territory, these liminal spaces, and the people who populate them,” the artist tells This is Colossal. “I continue to explore themes such as memory, ecological issues, pyscho-geography, identity, loss, and transformation.”

As he works on one painting, it usually gives him an idea for the next one. He says that his recent work ins influenced by Rebecca Solnit’s A Field Guide to Getting Lost. His work will be exhibited at Robert Lange Studios in Charleston, South Carolina from March 6th to 28th. You can check out his paintings below.
