]]> Sally West’s art will warm your heart as much as an actual day on the beach! This talented Australian painter can paint landscapes that tell stories and our favorites are the beach-themed ones. She prefers going out to paint what she sees in front of her, but her style is not too realistic. Though you can clearly see what she wanted to present, the details are mostly made of simple brushstrokes. Carefully chosen color palettes give her paintings life and make them vibrant. 

“I have always loved the beach. It’s where I feel happy and I don’t think I will ever move away from it,” West told The Chromologist. “When life gets hard I go to the beach… and everything seems beautiful again.”

She finds inspiration in the visual and audial appeal of the beach, in the way the horizon sets, and the sound of the waves. See her art below and follow her on Instagram for more.

]]> Summer’s just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more ready. But in the meantime, we’re taking inspiration from Angela Mckay’s joyous illustrations, that portray the carefree time spent chilling at the beach.

Her creations are made using gouache and watercolor. All pieces are drawn and painted by hand before being digitally printed. Originally hailing from the bright shores of Australia and the humid tropics of Thailand, Mckay now works in Ohkii Studio, based in Brooklyn, New York.

And coming from a rich and colorful background, she takes her inspiration from many places including the natural world, overseas travel adventures, folk tales, and old murder mystery novels.

Scrolling through her work, we could all use a refreshing cocktail.
