]]>“We all consist of 10 times more bacteria than human cells,” reads his website. “Every living being and place has its own unique and personal microbiological fingerprint. In a crossover between science, art, and industrial design, the bacteria lamp uses this fact to create stand out conversational pieces.”
His lamps are conversational pieces, if nothing else. His website explains that the samples are taken from people, places or things that hold a position of importance, and are grown into a unique piece in the form of commissioned work. “The possibilities are as individual as each one of us,” notes Klingler, and include the location of a first date, a personal souvenir from a memorable journey, or the remainder of loved one far away (meaning bacteria swabbed from your loved ones).
After a growth period of 24 to 48 hours, the microorganisms are fully sealed within resin to stop the growth and to preserve them for eternity. An LED light source incorporated into a custom silicone plug highlights the visual quality of the growth pattern and colors from above or below.
In an interview with Sixtysix Magazine, Klingler explained that the lamps are the result of his research on how to give new objects the opportunity to be vessels of past memories and give them a deeper relationship with their owner. “When producing a piece for commissioned work, the customer is very much involved in this process, getting to choose between the colors that grow or having a pure mix of all of them,” he adds.
Here are some of his mind-boggling designs:

]]>“I think it’s important to have aesthetically beautiful designs,” said Kim in an interview with Ballpitmag. “When I see a product that is not beautiful, sometimes I get angry,” she admits. “But before that, the reason, story and why this design is needed are more important. How do I think differently from others? This is the first question.”
With years of working experience in the field of Interior design in Seoul, Kim is currently studying for her Master’s in Product and Furniture Design in Kingston University in London. “I want to stimulate people’s thoughts through my design work,” she says. “I want to proceed with the design of a new perspective that does not exist through ideas, materials, and forms.”
Inspired by anything and everything, once an idea comes up, she looks for the perfect form, color, and proportions on the basis of simplicity. “I think the perfect design should accompany the story,” she says. “Then find a unique material.”

]]>But nowadays, her art is a far cry from charcoal nudes. Loud, bold, and colorful, she creates powerful visuals using everything from markers to acrylics, pencils, and ink, and sometimes even her bare hands making the whole process a very personal one. As such, her art breaks the boundaries of how the body and facial features are illustrated through the fashion industry. In other words: she likes mixing things up!
But though her work is a vibrant mish-mash of sorts, she herself is much more subdued. “My work is usually very loud, bold, and somehow different from my very chill real-life personality,” she told Adobe’s online magazine. “It probably has to do with the fact that I get bored easily and love to experiment, and I find art to be the perfect way of expressing myself.”
Her energetic illustrations attracted the eye of various global brands and publications. “I’m constantly in a different headspace and love to think three steps ahead, and usually the next project is the most exciting one,” she says. “When working with clients, I really like a good brief, but I also love to come up with new stuff and usually do a bunch of explorations using the tools and colors that I feel work best or will help that specific brand communicate better.”

]]>Co-founders Daniel Brix and Philip Lotko met each other while studying at Denmark’s TEKO Design School. Influenced by their Scandinavian heritage, their brand practices an uncompromising approach to simplicity that is as equally rooted in functionality as it is in relevance.
“Our product DNA is classic but innovative and we are always searching for new ways of developing the brand – that’s our constant motivation and inspiration,” said Lotko in an interview with Flaunt. “The Scandinavian design DNA is in almost everything we do – that’s why keeping designs simple and functional is key for us.”
Headquartered in Denmark, a Scandinavian undertone of simplicity remains constant in the Rains aesthetic, yet each product is carefully considered for the global customer. Their apparel, bags, and accessories are designed to withstand the stormiest of weather, all while speaking to the current tendencies of today.

]]>Inspired by Jungian therapy and creative exercises, Malavida also remains a way of self-expression as well as a tool to raise emotional intelligence and mental health sensitivity, claims her site. Whatever it is – it seems to work.
“Being a graphic designer in the first place, I’ve also always been drawn to abstract and experiments in general,” said Rainaud in an interview with the Ohh Deer blog. “As far as I remember, before creating Malavida, I started playing with textures and visual effects for my graphic design projects while I was in school. I truly wanted to, one day, be able to build my own identity, based on the things I like and the way I am as a person. This trippy yet dark vibe has always been a part of my life, so I guess that my style and designs had to convey these aspects, in order to stay as true to myself as possible.
“My work always has this tangible to digital dynamic,” she adds. “I usually start by working with a mix of different types of paints, inks, and materials to create a base movement and vibe. In this step, I’m not bothering too much with the colors or displacements to look perfect. The second step is digitalizing the artwork through a scanner or a camera, and then moving on to my favorite part, post-production. This third step is all about movements enhancements and adding all these signature vibrant colors. To achieve this effect, I usually work with algorithms, 3D software such as Cinema 4D and of course Photoshop.”

]]>“Working Girls isn’t just one type of craft or product. The brand as a whole is a concept,” she told the Urban Outfitters blog. “It started as an art experiment. I had an idea for a line of pool floats in the shape of body parts, and I had to make the idea come to life. Once I got going, I found I had to buy a ton of them to hit the minimums so I built the brand around it. In addition to the products we sell, I’ve made a number of site-specific installations locally, and overseas.”
Inspired by ’80s and ’90s music, film, and pop-culture, she went on to explain: “the things that inspire me have always remained the same, but my style has definitely evolved over the years. I’ve done anything from printmaking to quilting to weaving… There will always be an undertone of satire, and female-forward thinking, because that is who I am. My focus now is mainly design and installation, but I love teaching myself new skills, so who knows what the next thing will be.”
