Known simply as Peter, he runs an Instagram account under the name @peterpicksuptrash, where he posts photos of trash he found on the streets with a short message describing how easy it is to pick up trash. Peter says that he developed a habit of trash picking around two years ago, when he began noticing that every day, during his lunch breaks, he walks past piles of trash just lying around. So one day he decided to start picking it up.

]]>The Mediterranean Sea is one of the most visited touristic destinations that attracts thousands of tourists every summer, but unfortunately, their favorite sea is fighting with water pollution. According to WWF, almost 570 thousand tons of garbage flood into the sea every year, which is equivalent to 33,800 plastic bottles per minute.
Looking for new ways to be seen and heard, eco-activists decided to visually demonstrate the problem that cries out for urgent action from all stratums of society. Most recently, Greenpeace activists erected a pair of life-size sculptures of two whales emerging from a sea of plastic debris in front of the Hungarian Parliament. The large whales, are entirely made of paper and are a symbol of the detrimental effect that plastic has on marine life. We hope that actions like this will soon inspire a long-lasting solution to this global problem.

]]>Since 2011, Bordalo II has been working to make recycled materials into sculptures, often incorporating mechanical elements and instead of heading to the art supply store he just collects common trash and turns it into amazing works of art. His materials come from city dumps, such as the working parts of toys and clocks, damaged bumpers, burned tires and scrap iron.
Big Trash Animals is his compilation of large-scale sculptures who depict animals made out of recycled materials. Through portraying them, Bordalo II draws attention to the problem of waste and pollution made from the materials that are responsible for the destruction on the planet.
“My idea is to depict nature itself, in this case, animals, out of materials that are responsible for its destruction.”

Located in Bloomington, Minnesota, The Mall of America is one of the greenest malls in the nation that recycles more than 60% of its waste. They have thousands of plants and trees inside, as well as water-efficient toilets, and recycle more than 2400 tons of food waste annually.
Another great example is Matter of Trust, which along with the ecological charity Clean Wave has a rather unusual but effective way to help our planet. They collect hair and fur donations to create oil-absorbent mats that are used to clean up oil spills.
ReTuna Återbruksgalleria is a shopping center in Sweden where you can buy recycled, upcycled or eco-friendly, sustainable merchandise. You can leave something that you no longer use or want at a recycling depot, and then it will get repaired or re-sold.
