While some chefs and bakers on social media find their passion by chance, Melissa Stadler always knew she was born to cook. She was helping her mother in the kitchen from a young age and was always fascinated with the art of cooking. But had not expected her private passion to make her into a social media start with over 30k followers on Instagram and her own successful business.

Hi friends! I’m Melissa…the face behind Modern Honey, who is way more comfy behind the camera. It is baking season so I can’t wait to share all of my new baking recipes with you! It’s time to share one of my cooking fails! Before MH, I competed for years in cooking contests. My first contest was the Pillsbury Bake-Off in 2010. I was one of the finalists chosen to fly to Orlando to compete for 1 MILLION DOLLARS. It was televised on the Oprah Show (which was a big deal back in the day), and because everything was totally new to me, I was SO NERVOUS. I will never forget making my sandwich recipe. I was feeling pretty confident, everything went smoothly and felt it was ready for the judges. I put my sandwich in the oven for the last step – 2 minutes under the broiler to melt the cheese. It was at that precise moment a reporter wanted to interview me. I didn’t hear the timer…but I didn’t miss the smell. My sandwich had burned to smithereens. I opened the oven to lots of smoke and my crispy black sandwich. I was in total panic. I walked to the bathroom…had a quick cry, tried to pull myself together, then went back to work. I got it to the judges in the nick of time — with only minutes to spare. I didn’t win the million but left with something else….a deep desire to get myself back to the Pillsbury Bake-Off. I find that sometimes the biggest motivator in life is defeat. “Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat.” I was determined…so I worked and worked to create innovative recipes with one goal in mind — to return as a Pillsbury Bake Off finalist and do it all again. It was the greatest feeling to find out I was a finalist again! This time I went to the contest with two goals in mind — to do my best and to enjoy every single moment of the experience. Thankfully I didn’t burn my food! My recipe came out just like I wanted and the experience was everything I hoped it would be. I had one of the best days of my life. I didn’t bring home the million dollars, but it didn’t even matter. I had proven to myself that I could set a goal, work hard to achieve it, and actually live out a lifelong dream. So here’s to defeat because sometimes it’s our greatest teacher. ❤

Melissa’s passion for cooking started at her mom’s kitchen, where she would often help to cook for her five brothers. Bring the only girl in a household full of boys, she had to find her own niche – and cooking it was.

That interest follower her into high school, and in 2010 she felt confident enough in her skills to start competing in recipe contests. She spent five years traveling, competing and cooking with some of the biggest names in the industry. Her experience in the kitchen, and her degree in communications, helped her turn her passion into a business, and soon she launched her blog and social media brand, “Modern Honey.”

Today she shares her recipes with her thousands of followers, and still enjoys cooking for her friends and family. All it took was a knack for cooking, business savvy, and determination.

De Meal Prepper is a food stylist from the Netherlands that takes food art on another level. She creates tasty meals using simple recipes and then presents the dish in the shape of cool characters.

According to De Meal Prepper, she originally wanted to create some visually appealing dishes for her food blog. While doing this, she got “a little too enthusiastic” and ended up making meals that resembled animals, flowers, and pop culture characters.

Some of her creations include rice dish in shape of a hedgehog, mix of fresh seafood and smoked salmon shaped like a deer, and Mung bean and cauliflower puree styled to resemble Baby Yoda.

“Life’s too short to eat boring food,” reads Jose’s Instagram caption; and with over 1.6 million (!) followers, it’s clear that many other people agree.

“I ate animal products for 90 percent of my life, and meat was my favorite thing in the world,” admitted Jose in an interview with Daily Mail Online. “But I was struggling with eating disorders and an unhealthy low-weight.”

“I searched for lots of diets online and then the vegan diet popped up,” he recalled. “I saw how lots of vegans ate a lot and followed a high-carb diet but still had a perfect fit body, so I started eating less animal products and decided to inform myself about veganism. That is when everything changed and I learned that veganism is a lot more than a diet, it is a lifestyle. Soon after, I made the decision to become vegan. I was no longer looking to lose more weight, but to stop supporting all forms of animal cruelty.”

Based in Lima, Peru, Jose went 100 percent vegan by the age of 14 and taught himself to cook from scratch. His Instagram page showcases mostly desserts – anything from cakes to brownies all made using entirely vegan ingredients.

As well as being mouthwatering, his Instagram page is aesthetically pleasing. Take a look for yourself:

Daryna Kossar is a food artist and photographer who creates and photographs incredible art pieces from all kinds of food. Her creations are little masterpieces around which you can’t remain indifferent. Kossar takes food ingredients, fresh and natural as they are and turns them into landscape and travel scenes, portraits of famous people and cartoon characters, as well as artworks of cute animals.

The Ukraine-based food artist can use everything that she finds around her and that is edible – from fresh fruits and vegetables including kiwis, blueberries, raspberries, broccoli, peas, and carrots to uncooked colorful pasta, pancakes, and waffles. Kossar sometimes tends to use flower petals and fabrics, but in general, her creations are based on food.

After choosing the ingredients, she takes on the next step – preparing a foundation for the arts, which is usually a white or black plate and then she begins to develop her food creations that can take from a day to a whole week. After finishing the artworks, she takes pictures with her camera and shares the photos on her Instagram profile. In the end, we guess she eats them because you can’t just sit by and look at them – they look yummy!

Searching for creative and unique Instagram accounts, we stumbled upon Francesco Mattucci’s work. Over 50,000 people follow the work of this cool Italian guy on his account Kitchen Suspension.

“As for many things, the idea of Kitchen suspension Project came to me by chance, for reasons of time, family, needs, the kitchen is the area that I live the most,” Mattucci says. “I thought about talking of a physical place, in a simple way, and making its basic daily purpose, a set. But not a set where you cook, but where things that inhabit it, have a life of their own, almost as if they took a place of their own, a place of entertainment, of course.”

“There’s a great work of post production,” Mattucci explains. “Every object that you see floating was captured in the exact spot it was [when the photo was taken].”

Whenever we see a colorful Instagram page like Sprinkles for Breakfast, we always imagine a fun and playful person behind it. Lindsay Nathanson is exactly that. It’s difficult not to stay cheerful when your job involves creating adorable, pastel desserts day after day and sharing them with the world.

How did she get into baking?

“I have always had a sweet tooth,” Lindsay says, “so when I first started baking, it was for my own pleasure. But, I soon realized that I loved sharing my baked goods with friends and family – it made me so happy to see others happily eating my sweet treats! So, I started baking more and more.”

We wouldn’t mind having her for a friend!

Marzia Gamba likes playing with her food, but she likes capturing it on camera even more. The Italian-born, New York-based photographer and photo editor is the creator of the series called I Like Food Better Than People.

“Through colorful and minimalist tableaus, she creates various food compositions that play with shapes, colors, and lighting based on a personal aesthetic,” according to Fubiz. “Through her vision, Gamba looks beyond the purely nutritional value of food, and elevates a simple piece of fruit into a work of art.”

Gamba shares her work on her website and Instagram profile where she has attracted over four thousand followers and hundreds of likes on each post.

Malaysia-based mom of two, Lee Samantha, has a lot of fun making creative meals for her two daughters. She first started posting photos of her food in 2011 and since then, over 650,000 people started following her.

The main motivation for Samantha was to create fun and healthy meals that her daughters would love. She wanted to encourage them to eat independently by making meals that are just their own and it quickly became a beautiful tradition that they cherish to this day.

Samantha’s audience is mostly comprised of moms of young children who have trouble getting their little ones to eat healthy food. She’s happy to share recipes and serving ideas that help thousands of moms.

When you see Kimberly Hasselbrink’s photos of produce, you’ll instantly get hungry for some fresh food! Hasselbrink started her online career ten years ago, in 2009, when she launched her blog The Year in Food. Today, she works as a recipe developer, food stylist, and food photographer.

“My path into photography was by way of a food blog, The Year in Food, a celebration of color, produce, and home cooking,” Hasselbrink’s website reads. “This led to a cookbook that I wrote, developed and photographed, Vibrant Food. Prior to that, I studied furniture design, which gave me a great eye for detail and fine-tuned my problem-solving skills.”

See his work below.
