]]>In one scene, Kevin, after being left home alone, pays a visit to the grocery store and makes a big purchase that consists of a half-gallon of milk, a half-gallon of orange juice, a microwavable dinner, frozen macaroni and cheese, a whole loaf of bread, Snuggle dryer sheets, Tide detergent, saran wrap, toilet paper, and a package of toy army soldiers. He ends up paying $19.83 for the entire grocery haul after using a coupon that gave him $1 off on the orange juice.
In a viral video shared on his profile, TikToker @sellitlikelyons concluded that in order to buy all the items from Kevin’s grocery list, one would have to spend $63.73. This represents a whooping increase of 248% from 1990 to 2023.
The price comparison stunned a lot of social media users, who rushed to the comments section to express their disbelief.
“$100 bill is the new $20 bill,” one user wrote.
Another user also pointed out that today’s price isn’t just a result of inflation.
“For reference, $19.83 in 1990 would be equal to about $46.68 today. So it’s not just inflation. Things are way too expensive now,” they commented.
