Home Alone is one of the most iconic movies ever. Despite being released more than 30 years ago, it continues to fascinate people and makes them pick apart its memorable moments. For example, one TikTok user recently decided to calculate how much Kevin McCallister’s grocery list would cost today.

In one scene, Kevin, after being left home alone, pays a visit to the grocery store and makes a big purchase that consists of a half-gallon of milk, a half-gallon of orange juice, a microwavable dinner, frozen macaroni and cheese, a whole loaf of bread, Snuggle dryer sheets, Tide detergent, saran wrap, toilet paper, and a package of toy army soldiers. He ends up paying $19.83 for the entire grocery haul after using a coupon that gave him $1 off on the orange juice.

In a viral video shared on his profile, TikToker @sellitlikelyons concluded that in order to buy all the items from Kevin’s grocery list, one would have to spend $63.73. This represents a whooping increase of 248% from 1990 to 2023.

The price comparison stunned a lot of social media users, who rushed to the comments section to express their disbelief.

“$100 bill is the new $20 bill,” one user wrote.

Another user also pointed out that today’s price isn’t just a result of inflation.

“For reference, $19.83 in 1990 would be equal to about $46.68 today. So it’s not just inflation. Things are way too expensive now,” they commented.
