]]>We’re ready to step up our fashion game with the latest nail art trends. While a fresh, minimal manicure is always welcome, this summer is all about bold designs, neon colors, and eye-popping patterns.
“I derive inspiration from other places, from all kinds of artists, like jewelry designers,” said J in an interview with Coveteur. “But sometimes I just have an idea that pops in my head.” Such ideas include modern art-inspired nails, sculpted nails that incorporate jewelry, and even letter-shaped nails.
According to J, her passion is linked to her childhood, and more specifically her mother: “My mom is a very flashy person; she always had her nails done,” she noted. “If we’re going to a simple BBQ, she’ll wear a gypsy skirt and shirt with chains—she’s the flashy Haitian mom.”
Growing up in Haiti also meant attending a school that maintained a strict regime when it comes to your nails: “I also went to school in Haiti for a little while when I was younger, and they would line you up and check your hygiene, including your nails,” says J. “They would send you home if it wasn’t up to par.”
Currently based in New York City, J is the former Lead Nail Stylist for TNT’s critically-acclaimed television series CLAWS. And with over 90,000 followers on Instagram, she isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. If you’re looking to upgrade your fashion style, start here!

]]>This 26-year-old artist enjoys doing makeup for others and helping people feel prettier, but her true passion is using her own body as a canvas and creating stunning illustrations using makeup tools.
“I have loved art ever since I can remember. My creativity rocketed when I realized that my greatest canvas was my own body,” she explained in a recent post on Bored Panda.
According to Toma, she initially obtained a graphic design degree but wanted to give makeup artistry a chance. It wasn’t long before she discovered all the possibilities that makeup offers, and this prompted her to start making illusions and experimenting with visual effects.
Toma’s creations are super-impressive, coming with close attention to details and being very convincing. This is especially the case with some of her scarier works, which look like they came straight out of a horror movie.
“Makeup is my passion and definitely one of the best ways to express myself and show my creativity to other people,” she concludes.

]]>The post Marion Chameleon is Here to Remind Us That Makeup is Fun appeared first on PlayJunkie.
]]>Marion Moretti, also known as Marion Chameleon on social media, is a professional makeup artist and YouTube star. She started out like any other girl, trying out different looks for herself and playing around with colors and shapes. Eventually, she decided to get into the field professionally and signed up for the Make Up For Ever Academy in Nice, France.
Most makeup artists go on to create bridal looks, work for TV, or even become the in-house makeup artist for celebrities. But Marion wanted to try something else. Instead of creating regular, everyday looks, she decided to try and push the boundaries of makeup. She started her own YouTube channel where she tries unusual, innovative makeup looks on herself, and transforming herself into everything from fairies to demons – like a real chameleon!
Today she’s a huge start with almost half a million subscribers. She’s still creating new crazy makeup looks, and reminding her audience that makeup doesn’t have to be all grown-up and serious – it can be fun, too.

]]>Helen, also known as Baddie Winkle, has always been a rebel with a penchant for outrageous behavior, but up until 2014, she was just another great-grandma from Kentucky.
Then, one day, when Baddie was staying with her great-granddaughter Kennedy, the two decided to fool around a bit. Baddie put on Kennedy’s clothes–a tie-dye shirt and denim shirts, an unlikely attire for a woman her age. Kennedy liked the look so much that she asked her grandma to pose for a photo. Later, the two decided to create an IG account for Baddie and shared her image in her short shorts and colorful shirt.
Completely unexpectedly, the new account started gaining followers at a rapid pace. Among her early followers were even stars like Rihanna. Baddie’s new internet fame was a bit startling, but once she got over the initial shock, she decided to just go with it and lean into her new image. She started uploading photos of herself in colorful, wacky clothes and heavy makeup and soon became a fashion icon followed by teenagers all over the world.
It’s pretty easy to understand why she’s become such an icon – everything about her, from her outfits to her bright smile, screams “I’ll do whatever I want”. There’s no such thing as too old, not even in fashion.

]]>Juno describes herself as a glamorous alien woman who crash-landed on earth in the ’60s and has been trying to fit in. She paints her face in shades of blue and purple with large, shiny lips, wears huge blond wigs and will not be caught dead without her signature, 60’s style shades.
In real life, Juno is a trans woman who’s in love with drag, dressing up, and 60s fashion. She loves to exaggerate makeup and clothes since she was young, and her first big inspiration was the Joker, the comic book villain with the blue complexion and big, terrifying smile.
One day, she decided to dress up as the Joker for the party, and while her costume wasn’t very good, it was her first time trying to paint her skin blue. She loved it so much, that she’s been painting it blue or purple ever since.
Juno has been living as an alien woman from the sixties ever since. She’s also a performance artist and a sculptor, who makes tiny sculptures of herself in Fimo clay. But her alien persona isn’t just a joke. She walks around in her high heels and blue face to celebrate being different, and to show that you don’t have to look like everybody else to be beautiful.

]]>Her nail art has also caught the attention of Dazed and Confused Magazine. The British style magazine has recently interviewed Woodley, stating that her nail designs are nothing short of miniature works of art. “I’ve really only just come to terms with the idea that I am an artist,” Woodley admitted in the interview. “Growing up, I would draw a lot but didn’t consider myself an artist. Now that I have come to terms with it, each step of the process feels very emotional.”
“My dad took me to get my first manicure when I was seven years old,” she recalled. “I was really obsessed with nail polish and long nails after that, even though I was a nail biter.” Fast forward to 2013, and she was working as a stylist assistant when she met Bernadette Thompson. “After badgering her on set for hours, I went home to research her,” she says. “It hadn’t dawned on me how much influence she had in the things I loved growing up, not to mention how much money I could actually make doing nails.”
According to Woodley, “Seeing a black woman making her way in two industries, one being predominantly Asian and the other being predominantly white, and dominate blew my mind. It was a wrap after that.” Take a look at some of her mesmerizing nail art in the gallery below:

]]>Born and raised in Paris, de Quénetain was very much inspired by her mother, who worked as a fashion designer. “I always saw her drawing fashion figures in her studio, listening to music,” she recalled in an interview with Global Blue. “I thought it was a very cool way to work and I planned to do the same at a very young age.”
It didn’t take her much time. Having graduated from ESAG Penninghen, Académie Julian in Paris in 2009 with a masters degree in
Art Direction and Graphic Design, she co-founded a graphic design studio by the age of 22. Her work has caught the attention of brands and designers alike, and de Quénetain has since collaborated with brands like Chanel, Hermes, Goop, Louboutin, and Estée Lauder, to name a few.
Inspiration comes to her fairly easily, while traveling in cities like London, Paris, New York, Helsinki, and Copenhagen. Here are some of her original takes on the fashion and beauty industry:

]]>Originally from Kyoto, Japan, Kawajiri has been doing nails for more than 15 years. After starting out as an aspiring tattoo artist, she opted for nail art after realizing permanent tattoos was too much of a commitment.
According to Kawajiri, the biggest difference between Japanese and American nail art is that Japanese designs are “more abstract,” whereas her American clients “love to have a theme.” “Even 10 years ago, [Japan was] doing what we are doing in New York: big stones, crazy charms,” she explained in an interview with WWD. “Young girls save money for their nails instead of eating a lot of food. They wanna be skinny and they wanna have cool nail art.”
Her nail art is mostly extravagant and over the top, adding a playful edge to even the sternest of looks. “I love drama,” she admitted. And when it comes to her inspiration, she finds it in her day to day life. “As long as I don’t copy or I don’t watch other people’s Instagram, I’m good,” she said. “I don’t watch nail Instagrams at all. If you see [something] one time, you have the idea already on the inside of your head. I don’t wanna be like that. I wanna be always original and new.”
Her original nail art comes at a hefty price. Charging around $200 for a manicure, Kawajiri has become so in-demand that she only takes new clients if they come with a referral. But you can still enjoy her looks from afar, by following her on Instagram.
