]]>For their two-year anniversary, Riley surprised his girlfriend, Denisha with “love pills.” Prior to their anniversary Denisha had been struggling with anxiety and Riley wanted to find a way to make her happy. Denisha doesn’t like taking pills for her anxiety, so Riley thought he would put a creative spin on them. He ordered empty gelatin capsules and filled them with sweet, love notes to her. In total there were 60 notes and they took him two hours to create them.
Riley also told her that she could refill them when she ran out. Denisha’s response to the gift, she loved it, “Gifts don’t have to cost $100 to be meaningful, a couple of bucks and some creativity.”
We wish we had someone as thoughtful as Riley in our life.

]]>Over the past few years, more and more studies have shown just how important mental health is to our well-being and how we should not neglect it. However, many people today still don’t know how to go about talking about mental health, or better yet, how to handle people with mental health issues.
In fact, it’s not uncommon for society to discriminate against people with mental health disorders.
Mexico-based artist, Sofía Román, is no stranger to that.
Having struggled with bipolar disorder since she was 16 years old and having been officially diagnosed 2 years later when she turned 18, Sofía has used art over the years to cope and express her feelings, which have often been misunderstood by the people around her.
Now, after years of therapy, she hopes that her art will get people talking about mental health disorders, specifically, bipolar disorder. She believes that art is a way of helping to end the stigma and discrimination towards and against people who are struggling with mental health issues.

“They are in very limited spaces, but the picture is quite colourful and almost cheerful because I wanted to use comical characters and not dramatic ones,” she explains. “The anxiety is not obvious in the pictures because it’s not properly there yet, but you get the feeling of it through the position of their bodies and the expression on their faces.”
