]]>The Black Swan actress hit the red carpet in a gorgeous black gown by Dior with stunning gold embroidery, but a closer look at her gown revealed there so much more to it than meets the eye.
The dress came with a matching cape that featured custom stitched names of directors Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Mati Diop (Atlantics), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim), Alma Har’el (Honey Boy), and Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire).
None of them received Academy Award nominations for directing this year, but Portman decided to celebrate them because she “wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in a subtle way.”
Not all heroes wear capes, but Natalie Portman does and she used it to send a really powerful message and support female filmmakers from all around the world.

“For seven years I have worked on a personal project of illustrating all the Best Picture nominees at the Oscars for the upcoming year. Each film is portrayed by the gold statue in a costume and elements from the film.”
