]]>Based in Mumbai, India, Karnik knew she wanted to pursue art as a career, ever since she was a young child. “I have always had a very keen interest in beautiful writing, calligraphy, be it the names of my family, friends, and even people I idolized,” she recalled in an interview with All Things Paper.
According to Karnik, pursuing an education in art was only natural. Having completed a degree in graphic design, she focused on typography, which she calls her first love. “In my final year project, I concentrated purely on paper and 3D paper sculpturing,” she says. “Fortunately the result came out very well. I thought why not try and experiment a little more by combining the two, so as a fun way to pass the time one afternoon, I randomly started making alphabets out of paper.”
Her paper alphabet proved to be a raging success, and as she shared her work online, it became somewhat of a viral sensation. “Before I could finish the entire letter series, I started getting offers from advertising agencies to collaborate with them,” says Karnik. “And I have been very busy ever since, working with agencies in the U.S, Europe, the Middle East, South America, and South Africa.”

]]>Runa managed to master this art and now she’s creating amazing paper sculptures shaped like violins, pianos, hearts, hot air balloons, and many other objects that inspire her. It’s interesting that up until four years ago, Runa worked as an HR Specialist, but once she discovered this beautiful hobby, the artist quit her day job to pursue her artistic passion.
“While I was searching the internet for inspiration to find the right hobby for me, I found a colorful picture that was made from paper using the quilling technique, but I had no idea what it was called”, the artist remembered how she started this hobby in an interview for *My Modern Met*. “I tried to make it (I had colored papers from my earlier hobby: origami), but it turned out awful! After exploring many quilled creations online, I soon found my own style.”
Runa is now a full-time paper artist and she had more than 130 thousand followers on Instagram.

]]>With a master degree from the University of Hertfordshire, this British artist and designer describes herself as a paper engineer.
To create her stunning pictures, she uses one of the oldest techniques called quilling. This craft art contains strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create a design.
She loves to experiment and discover new ways of bringing her favorite things together, especially the fusion between paper and typography. The colors, details, swirls and the movement of her artworks are perfectly in harmony, everything matches nicely with everything else, enchanting anyone who is looking for innovation and creativity.
Her work has appeared in various places, from books and magazine covers to working with some of the largest companies in the world like Hermes, Godiva, and Starbucks.
Today, she turns her playful 2D paintings into 3D drawings using clever paper folding tricks and techniques by cutting and tweaking sheets of paper in ways that complete her sketches.
