PAH is a wildlife sanctuary with a very special attraction for visitors – you can book a guided tour and meet wolves face to face -and other wild animals as well. These encounters are part of the sanctuary’s mission of spreading awareness, appreciation, and compassion for wildlife through real-life encounters.

PAH’s meet-and-greet initiative is pretty unique, for a good reason. Mostly, wolves are shy animals who don’t seek or enjoy the company of humans. But PAT’s wolves are special – these are wolves who, for various reasons, cannot be set free in the wild, and need the help and guidance of the sanctuary’s staff to lead good, long, healthy lives.  That also means that unlike most wolves, they’re used to the company of humans and enjoy spending time with them – and the sanctuary has decided to use this as an opportunity to educate the public about these special creatures.

Unfortunately, there’s a long waitlist for the tour – but the PAH team shares photos of their human-wolf encounters on Instagram, so we can appreciate and enjoy this unique experience from afar.

Based in Udaipur, India, Animal Aid Unlimited is an organization that is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals. India’s attitude towards animals is pretty unique – animals are viewed as a natural part of everyday life, even in urban areas. So it’s not uncommon to see packs of dogs, a bull or a donkey walking the streets of Udaipur, and they aren’t considered “strays”. 

But that doesn’t mean these animals don’t need help sometimes. The streets can be dangerous, and accidents can happen. Sometimes a puppy will get sick, a bull will get stuck in a narrow alley, or a donkey will get hurt. But what do you do when you hear the cries of a scared, hurt animal? In Udaipur, you call AAU. 

The volunteers of UUA will arrive with their veterinary ambulance to take in the animal and get it to their headquarters, where it will receive medical care. Then, depending on the severity of each case, the animal will be taken in for rehabilitation. This can take anywhere between a few days and months, but the folks of AAU will not give up on any animal. They not only treat their physical wounds but also help the animals recover from any emotional trauma, with cuddles and kisses and all-round loving care. 

When the animal is ready, it will be set free again, happy and healthy. And if anything happens again, AAU will be there to treat the wounds and heal with love.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is just that. Founded in 1977 by Daphne Sheldrick, in memory of her husband, conservationist David Sheldrick, the Trust has been fighting poaching and rescuing elephants for over 40 years. They have helped pass anti-poaching laws, rehabilitated hurt and orphaned elephants, and created a safe habitat for wild animals in Africa.

Their most well-known project, though, is their elephant orphanage. The Sheldricks had been caring for orphaned elephants decades before the Trust was even founded, helping to raise baby elephants who lost their mothers to poaching or that were abandoned. These baby elephants, who would have died out there in the wild, were given a second chance in life thanks to the Sheldrick family’s devotion.

Today, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust still runs an elephant orphanage and it even allows people from all over the world to “adopt” a baby elephant and help care for them! These sweet creatures get to grow and live a full, happy elephant life, surrounded by their found pack and nurtured by a few kind-hearted folks.

The photos we are about to show you were taken at the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In case you didn’t know, the said park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the same time, it’s also Africa’s oldest national park.

Many rare and exotic animals call it home. This includes, among others, the photogenic gorillas we’ve mentioned earlier. They are apparently part of the last remaining mountain gorillas, critically-endangered species that researchers are desperately fighting to help stay alive and repopulate.

Because of the importance of the wildlife living at the Virunga National Park, as many as 600 rangers stand guard, ready to take on poachers at any moment’s notice.

Of course, as serious as their jobs may be, the park rangers aren’t above having some fun while on the job. In fact, a couple of them have even bonded with the park’s gorillas.
