Photogenic Gorillas Take Selfies with Anti-Poaching Rangers

Photogenic gorillas is probably a term that you thought you’d never use in your life. But, after taking a look at the photos we’re about to show you below, that’s probably the first thing that will come into your mind.

But, first, a little bit of backstory.

The photos we are about to show you were taken at the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In case you didn’t know, the said park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the same time, it’s also Africa’s oldest national park.

Many rare and exotic animals call it home. This includes, among others, the photogenic gorillas we’ve mentioned earlier. They are apparently part of the last remaining mountain gorillas, critically-endangered species that researchers are desperately fighting to help stay alive and repopulate.

Because of the importance of the wildlife living at the Virunga National Park, as many as 600 rangers stand guard, ready to take on poachers at any moment’s notice.

Of course, as serious as their jobs may be, the park rangers aren’t above having some fun while on the job. In fact, a couple of them have even bonded with the park’s gorillas.
