The post Alison Roman Will Inspire You to Cook, If Nothing Else appeared first on PlayJunkie.
]]>But if you ask Roman, she’s just a person writing recipes that people like. “I’m not trying to corner a market,” she relayed in an interview with the New Consumer. “I’m not trying to appeal to millennials, which by the way, could be a 40-year-old at this point.”
“There’s other people in my industry that would never get that label that,” she reflected, “quite frankly, have never achieved the level of popularity, and I’m wondering why. It’s just interesting to me.” Her rise to popularity is in part thanks to her viral recipes (look up #TheStew and #TheCookies), and in part due to her unapologetic approach to cooking (look up that beef with Chrissy Teigen).
She also has a newsletter you’d actually want to sign up for, with recent recipes including sticky apple cake and chicken salad. But according to Roman, her success came about fairly intuitively, with no real business model to follow. “I have no strategy,” she admitted. “That’s something you should know about me. I’m like an animal. [Laughs.] I operate on instinct — yes or no. I say no a lot. And I say yes to not as much, especially these days.”
Follow her on Instagram for some behind-the-scenes footage from her kitchen.

]]>From time to time, Rianne uploads an “Instagram vs reality” photo that compares her perfect Instagram shots with real, unflattering photos. These side-by-side photos are hilarious, but also very important because Rianne wants to tell her followers that’s she’s not perfect and looks exactly like the rest of us in real life.
“First of all, the not-so-pretty pictures made me laugh so hard and I hoped it would make others laugh as well,” Rianne told Bored Panda. “And second, it could give a really nice and honest message to my followers. It kind of felt like only posting the perfect Instagram pictures was basically lying, so for me to post the other ones next to it made it more real. That’s why I posted the Instagram vs. reality pictures. And it turned out to be a good call. I love that now I stand for something online.”

]]>Her poignant writing clearly resonates with others, with her Instagram page amassing more than 500 thousand followers. Now, Elle also passes her knowledge through workshops and retreats that are centered around assisting others in finding their voices through storytelling, poetry, and narrative writing.
“The highlight of my career has been building a community near and far, in-person and online,” she shared with Create & Cultivate. “It blows my mind how writing, storying telling, and standing in comradery can shift the dynamics of sisterhood and self-love in such a positive way, time and time again.”
But even with that many followers, she admits it’s still hard for her to open up. “I still feel vulnerable when I share my writing. It’s my heart’s work. I think vulnerability is good, so I lean into it. People relate to authenticity and I truly believe that being vulnerable helps amplify that.”

]]>The Brazilian-based artist spends more than 100 hours on each project, and her attention to detail is strikingly evident. Thanks to carefully placed shading, ultrathin lines and a remarkably steady hand, Sheila’s designs look as if they’re going to jump right off the page. They’re so immaculate, in fact, that her Instagram audience is calling her an ‘art genius’ and ‘insane’ over the amount of dedication she puts into hers penciled portraits.
What makes her different from the other hyperrealist artists is that she predominantly works with pencil, while others tend to use an airbrush. With her drawings, she tends to create an emotional, social and cultural impact and her style differs from photorealism which is far more technical. She takes everyday objects and scenes, mostly including famous people and then recreates unreal drawings, which also reveal some insights into how she achieves that realistic look.
“My inspiration comes from the phrase ‘to intensify the normal,” she said.
These mind-blowingly realistic images are hand drawn illustrations. Seriously.
