The hottest trend of the past decades has been muted colors. Pastels, neutral tones, greys, delicate pink, and baby blue have been all the rage. But sometimes you just have to have a pop of color around you to wake you up. And Jen Stark is all about popping colors.

Born in Miami, Florida, Jen has always been interested in visual art and in the immense effect color can have on anyone. She’s loved the idea of capturing growth, evolution and sacred geometry in color. After graduation from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2005, she’s been working to capture those concepts in her art.

Jen draws on all kinds of canvases. Sometimes she uses a traditional canvas, and sometimes she draws over a bathing suit, a wall or even a human body. The work surface doesn’t matter – whatever it is, she’ll cover it with mesmerizing shapes and colors.

The end result really is mesmerizing. It’s hard to get your eyes off of her art. It sucks you in with all of the tiny details and beautiful color combinations. Many of her paintings look like broken, warped rainbows, and getting lost in them is so easy.

So if you ever get tired of rose-gold and shades of beige, head over to Jen’s IG account. You’ll find there all the color you can possibly want.

Fine art is a lot of things – grand, impressive, beautiful. But, if we’re being honest, it can also be a bit boring. Most of the art we see in museums today belonged to a different era when art was done by commission, and the only people who could afford it were the rich and powerful. The result is that most fine art depicts basically the same subjects – princes, nobles, generals, and powerful merchants. It’s all very impressive, but our reality is so different from what these paintings depict. It’s hard to relate to a prince on a horse when most of us barely even know princes.

And that’s exactly what Kehinde Wiley set out to fix. Wiley is a Nigerian-American artist currently based in New York. He was trained in the classical tradition in some of America’s finest institutes – the San Francisco Art Institute and Yale University’s School of Art. And while he loved the traditional techniques, he was troubled by how unrelatable the themes and subjects of these paintings were.

That is why he set out to reinvent traditional paintings. Instead of drawing in a new, modern style, or going for old-time technique and subjects, he decided to take his classical training and apply it to our modern world. Instead of drawing princes and generals, he draws regular folks in regular clothes – but with his incredible skill, turns then into a grand masterpiece. Today, he’s one of the most celebrated artists of our time, and it’s easy to see why – he can take the most ordinary person, and turn them into royalty.

Blending the glitchy spirit of technology with the timelessness of the wooden medium, Taiwanese artist Han Hsu-Tung creates incredible and unique pixelated sculptures.

Appearing as if they might have jumped off your computer screen’s loading page or sprung from a phone as the batteries power off, Hsu-Tang crafts intricate pieces out of wood and then chips out numerous cubes to give his artwork a truly one of a kind pixelated appearance.

His pieces tend to focus on the human body, with a series of sculptures in the shape of oversized ears, hands, torsos, and skulls. In addition, he has designed sculptures in the form of majestic horses and swans.

Hsu-Tung begins his process by sketching and then transfers each sketch into a clay model. Next, the artist chooses the type of wood he sees fit for each individual piece. He has sculpted pieces out of walnut, teak, and African wax wood. The pixelation process is completed when Hsu-Tung delicately adds or removes a number of block shapes to the sculpture, finalizing the modern touches on his digitally inspired art.

Check out his awesome pixelated sculptures below or visit his personal Facebook page.

Embroidery is one of the oldest techniques with records dating from before the 10th century. Its roots are ancient, with every culture having some form it in their textile art history.

Although the activity started with practical beginnings to mend clothing, it has grown into a creative endeavor that remains popular today. It’s an easily accessible craft to start. Supplies are inexpensive and the techniques range from basic to advanced. You might even know some of the embroidery stitches—many of us learn to sew from a parent or grandparent, as the skills of embroidery are traditionally passed on from generation to generation.

Stefanija Pejchinovska, who works behind the label Damaja, is a hand embroidery designer based in Berlin, Germany. She is a graduate architect who finds ultimate pleasure in hand embroidery as a meditative and satisfying craft.

Stefanija is self-taught and practices hand embroidery in the past two decades. She believes in a more mindful approach to life through reuse of textiles, slow fashion, slow creation. Her work consists of teaching workshops, upcycling fabrics to produce accessories and collaborations with local designers to embroider sustainable clothing, made in an ethical environment.

So, relеаse all your thoughts, let your brain completely relax and allow your intuition to contribute in every string you weave.

Check out some of her work below.
