Based in Wales, UK, Phil Morgan works in an incredibly versatile range of formats; anything from murals and skateboard art to paintings and screen prints. His work borrows from the aesthetics of previous eras – including ‘70s psychedelia, ‘80s technology, and ‘90s street culture – and drags them up to the present day in new and twisted forms. Describing his work as the ultimate in post-modern street art, Morgan takes well-known elements from worldwide pop culture and repurposes them with a wink and a smile.

“I try to add a lot of humor in my illustrations which I guess also reflects what type of person I am,” he added in an interview with Another Fine Mess. “I don’t take things too seriously,” he adds. “I am an early bird so I’m up first thing working on various projects. I like keeping as active with work as much as possible.”

With a background as both a musician and skateboarder, his roots more often than not sneak into his work, with punk rock nods to the likes of Henry Rollins, The Ramones, and Fugazi. His distinctive style has also been embraced by a plethora of skate and surf companies (including Vans, Toy Machine, and Santa Cruz Skateboards), but he has also caught the attention of more mainstream brands, with features and collaborations with the Washington Post, Urban Outfitters, and Dr. Martens.

“I grew up skateboarding from the age of eight years old,” he recalled. “I was in a band through my twenties also, but I don’t play music anymore. Skateboarding actually got me back in to my art about six years ago when I designed a bunch of skate graphics for my friend’s skate company called Crayon Skateboards. I always dreamed of one day seeing my art on a wizz plank.”

Sadly, he adds, both his skateboard and bass guitar are gathering dust as he’s too busy painting these days. Scroll down to see some of his work:

ROA is a Belgium-born street artist that doesn’t reveal much about himself and rarely shows his face. Instead, he lets his works do the talking.

ROA is best known for his giant murals of animals like rats, snakes, crocodiles, and birds that decorate buildings all over the world. So far he worked all across Europe and the United States, as well as Australia, Asia, New Zealand, and Africa.

“Exploration of nature, more specifically of the animal world, can lead to increased empathy,” ROA explains his inspiration with animals and nature. “It teaches you something substantial about how one should live a good life.”

This talented artist usually uses minimal color pallet, with black and white being predominant in his works. Another impressive thing about his works is that he doesn’t use sketches, preferring to immediately go to work.

Check out more of ROA’s works below.

While many cities out there don’t care or support street art culture, Redwood City, California and it’s officials decided to take a different approach. They not only embrace street art but they also actively work on its promotion.

The city decided to commission artist Damon Belanger for an intriguing street art project that aims to encourage creativity in the area. Belanger painted fake shadows of 20 different street objects that first confuse pedestrians and then wow them with their uniqueness.

These fake shadows range from harmless ones, like flowers and friendly robots to scary ones like monsters and beasts. Check out Belanger’s amazing works below.

While there are still people who consider street art to be vandalism, they might change their mind when they see the work of French street artist SCAF. He creates impressive large-scale murals with such attention to details that the images look like they will pop up from the wall any moment.

SCAF draws his inspiration from various sources but his most recognizable works are definitely those revolving around popular pop-culture motifs including movies like Lord of the Rings and television series like Breaking Bad.

Besides street art, this talented artist also does commission through his decoration company GrafoDeco, providing original and unique interior or exterior decorations.
