Want to wear your appreciation for art around your wrist? If the answer is yes, then you’ll find the latest collection from watchmaker Swatch and Tate Gallery particularly interesting.

Swatch and Tate Gallery teamed up to release a collection of watches inspired by famous artworks. It consists of seven watch designs, with each one having its face and strap adorned with motifs from a different masterpiece. The watches don’t feature digits, which keeps the look clean and gives a better representation of the artwork.

The list includes Henri Matisse’s “Snail,” Louise Bourgeois’ “Spirals,” Wilhelmina Barns-Graham’s “Orange and Red on Pink,” Joseph Mallord William Turner’s “The Scarlet Sunset,” Fernand Léger’s “Two Women Holding Flowers,” Marc Chagall’s “The Blue Circus,” and Joan Miro’s “Women and Bird in the Moonlight.”

“In collaboration with the renowned Tate galleries, we are celebrating a true journey through time, genre, and self-expression. Our Swatch x Tate Gallery Collection is a selection of wearable masterpieces, inspired by artists known for their boundary pushing, innovation and positive provocation,” Swatch said announcing the collection.

The watches from the Swatch x Tate Gallery Collection are currently available through Swatch’s online shop. The price ranges between $100 and $110.

Monsieur Cailloux is a French artist whose whimsical ceramic sculptures are unlike anything you’ve seen so far. The reason for it is that they all come from an imaginary planet.

With his sculptures, Cailloux is creating a whole new world of unknown creatures that visit Earth. They belong to a Cailloux tribe and live on the stone planet MRCX. Most of these creatures resemble stones of various shapes and colors with minimalistic facial features.

The members of the Cailloux tribe are also characterized by having three legs. This is explained as their evolutionary trait that allows them to travel across MRCX with astonishing speed.

You’ll often find that these creatures are full of irregularities, cosmetic flaws, and unusual features. According to Cailloux, this is done by purpose. He isn’t striving to make a perfect piece and instead embraces when it doesn’t turn out the way he planned.

“I try to make visible the humanity that is hidden in us by pressing on the irregularities and flaws of a handmade work. Mistakes are then, for me, a source of happiness,” Cailloux shared with Colossal in a recent interview.

All members of the Cailloux tribe who visit Earth are available for adoption, and there is a long line of art enthusiasts who want to give them a new home. But you can still meet them thanks to Cailloux’s Instagram page, where he regularly shares his newest creations.

We have seen some really fascinating projects come to life thanks to LEGO bricks. However, a recent creation by Austrian musician Bernth is really something special.

Bernth recently decided to craft a full-functioning guitar using LEGO bricks and use it to play his new song “Memories”. He documented the process in a video shared on YouTube, and it is a must-watch.

To build his LEGO guitar, Bernth sketched an outline on a Lego baseplate and proceeded to construct the guitar body using plastic bricks. He then attached a bridge and guitar neck before placing nylon strings.

Upon finishing the guitar, Bernth sits down in his studio and performs “Memories” on it. As expected, the sound of the guitar is unique but quite captivating.

In the text comments placed in the video, Bernth explains that the guitar sounds like nothing he has ever heard while giving him a “warm feeling of nostalgia mixed with childhood memories.” As it turns out, he played with the same LEGO bricks when he was a child.

“Sometimes, we can all build something new with what we thought we lost in the past. So let’s never forget where we came from,” he adds.

Check out this cool video below.

Some animals and birds are easy to identify. You’ll hardly fail to recognize a bear or an eagle when you see one. However, with so many nature residents out there, it is hard to know which one is which every time.

This is why Swarovski Optik, a subsidiary of glass company Swarovski, designed AX Visio smart binoculars that can recognize more than 9,000 species of birds and animals.

Once the user zeros in on the bird or an animal, the binoculars will identify it in real time and provide its name and location using Artificial Intelligence software. It also comes with an integrated camera that allows you to snap photos of birds and animals and share them with your smartphone.

“The AX Visio are the world’s first AI-supported binoculars and a perfect symbiosis of high-performance analog long-range optics and digital intelligence. At the touch of a button, they assist with the identification of birds and other creatures, allowing discoveries to be shared, and offer a wide range of practical extra functions,” the company shared in a press release.

The AX Visio smart binoculars will become available for purchase in February 2024. They are currently priced at $4,799.

Brooklyn-based artist Max Kolo is doing an unusual public service. He is taking the poorly designed flyers and posters around New York City and making them look better.

Kolo has been sharing his works on TikTok, and they have been picking up quite a lot of attention, landing him loads of new followers and even an interview with The Washington Post.

According to Kolo, he started re-designing random flyers and posters during a period of “creative rut”. One day, he was walking around the city and noticed a flyer posted by a board game enthusiast looking for similar-minded people.

Kolo couldn’t stop thinking about the flyer, so he decided to re-vamp it, making it eye-catching and more efficient in conveying its message. He then returned to the same spot and placed it next to the original.

“When I see something poorly designed, it’s in me to imagine how I would do it differently,” Kolo told The Washington Post. “That got me really excited.”

Soon, Kolo saw his creative spark lit up again, and he started giving a makeover to other poorly-designed flyers and posters. He was particularly targeting small businesses and charitable efforts, who could benefit from his work.

Kolo’s re-designs became a hit on social media, regularly generating hundreds of thousands of views. Check out more of them below.

Want to take your toilet experience to a whole new level? Maybe not, but plumber-turned-innovator Claude Somajini believes he can convince you to do it.

Somajini designed probably one of the coolest toilet bowls on the market. It is shaped like a skull, comes in all sorts of vibrant and quirky designs, and boasts an impressive list of additional perks.

According to Somajini, the Water Throne toilet bowl took three years to develop and was made by using twenty-four molds. It has a rimless design, allowing the water to circle in an innovative way, cleaning more bacteria than the traditional one. But this is only the beginning.

To add more fun to your whole experience, Water Throne also comes with built-in speakers, an LED system, Bluetooth connection, and its own battery system. On top of that, you can fully customize the look of the Water Throne. This includes picking out the color scheme and having a customized flush button.

Water Throne comes at a price of around $2100 for its basic design, while the add-ons and customization options are charged extra. While you are thinking about getting one, check out the best and most daring designs below.

James Nolan Gandy is a talented craftsman that uses his skills to create art. The way he does it is a bit unusual, as he actually makes things that make art.

Gandy’s most recent invention is a drawing machine that creates mesmerizing artworks. It draws complex patterns and shapes that look like they are a result of an elaborate algorithm. However, that’s not the case as the electric motor-powered machine is entirely analog.

While the machine is the one pressing pen on paper, Gandy actually determines what the artwork will look like. By making adjustments to the mechanical parts, he is able to set the speed of the machine and the outcome of the patterns. But Gandy’s contributions don’t end there.

When the machine is drawing multi-color pieces, each color must be applied separately. This means Gandy has to step in, pause the process, switch the colors, and then set the machine back in motion.

Gandy spent the majority of his adult life working in the custom furniture business and only became interested in metal and mechanics several years ago. After that, he started challenging himself with various demanding projects and has since crafted several drawing machines that create different types of art.

Keep scrolling to check out more artwork made by Gandy’s machines.

Slava Korolev collects old music instruments, vintage cameras, and other items people wanted to get rid of and then repurposes them as cool-looking lamps. He designs all the pieces himself and crafts them in his garage.

According to his website, he makes sure to only work with items that can’t be used for their original purpose anymore: “No live instruments were harmed in the making of this collection,” he says.

Korolev revealed in a recent interview that he got into this intriguing craft in 2014. He had “plenty of time to kill” so he came up with the idea to try and make lamps from his “humble collection of vintage horns and wall-hangers.”

After giving away the lamps as a present to a few friends, the word got out, and he quickly started getting inquiries from people who wanted to buy something similar. Korolev made several more to deal with the demand and continued doing it ever since.

Take a look at more of Korolev’s lamps on his Instagram page!

Some of the earliest works of glass art were glass vessels. As a decorative and functional medium, glass was developed in Egypt and Assyria. These days, it’s hard to imagine our life without glass. Indeed, recent years have seen glass vessels and sculptures in the forefront of home décor trends, and for good reason.

Glass can transform a dark and gloomy interior into a space full of light, adding novelty to a room by virtue of its simplicity and elegance. With all of that being said, the following glass-made objects will upgrade any home!

Elena Zaycman’s Glass Butterflies

Stained glass designer Elena Zaycman has caught our attention thanks to her luminous sculptures of butterflies, moths, and bees created using the Tiffany technique, a glass assembly technique using opalescent glass.

Each piece is made with exact precision, beginning with a detailed sketch: “I like them to be accurate, and I don’t eyeball anything, because it affects every other stage of production,” says Zaycman.

Helle Mardahl’s Glass Lidded Jars

You might mistake Halle Mardahl’s glass objects for translucent candy. Exploring the contrast between organic shapes and hard materials, her designs aim to bring life to spaces, and are equally capable of standing alone or blending in. Amongst her hand-blown pieces you can find vases, bowls, and lamps. Personally, we find her glass-lidded jars irresistible.

Devyn Ormsby’s Glass Fruit

These glass-made fruit pieces remind us of the plastic replicas our grandmother showcased in her kitchen. Nostalgic to a tee, Devyn Ormsby’s unique collection features lemons, pears, mandarins, and bananas made from glass in a single block of color.

“Fruit holds a large significance in art history, which is where I think the appeal comes from,” says Ormsby, whose work nods to the blown glass fruit makers and collectors from the 1960s.

Kelly Graham of Camias Jewelry Designs recently shared the result of her DIY project. Graham was inspired to share her mosaic floor art made from pennies after Kat Von D shared her impressive floor made out of 29,928 pennies. Graham created the floor art back in 2015 and you won’t believe that it took her five years to create it!

“I made my own penny floor in my foyer room,” she shared in a Facebook post that has since gone viral. The artist used 7,500 pennies to finish the mosaic and with some sealant, it’s held up over the past five years.

“6 years ago, this was my first attempt at working with pennies I had collected before I went on to do the penny floor a year later,” she told Bored Panda.

While being in quarantine many of us have taken up DIY projects to pass the time or try out new hobbies. If you’re looking to try something besides, crocheting, tie-dying, or puzzles you’ll want to check this artist out!
