The post Engineer Spends Over 400 Hours Building a Penny-Farthing Motorbike appeared first on PlayJunkie.
]]>In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Gregulations, Mitchell showcased a time-consuming but quite fun project: applying a penny-farthing bicycle design to a motorcycle. It took him more than 400 hours to turn his ideal into a reality, but the result is quite impressive.
Mitchell first took apart a Yamaha YZF-R6 he bought online and fitted it with a custom-built swing arm and a large 364-pound front wheel. The penny-farthing motorbike, called Super Farthing, also has sports support wheels, which aid in maintaining balance.
After completing the project, Mitchell went for a test ride that proved his creation could be used on the road. However, he himself wouldn’t recommend it due to the numerous flaws that come with it.
“What I love most about the Super Farthing is that what I’ve made here is actually terrible. It’s worse in every measurable way. It’s so much slower, horrendously expensive, laughably impractical, and, despite all of that, I challenge you to sit there and tell me this is not insanely cool,” Mitchell said.

]]>According to Lee, he was always fascinated with the science of cells, the way they divide and grow from a single entity to a million multiplications in order to form a new life. This fascination prompted him to start creating segmented, geometrical forms that represent cells, embryos, and biological and molecular structures.
Each of Lee’s pieces, meticulously carved and pieced together from different pieces of glass using lamination, symbolizes “the building blocks of life as well as the starting point of life. “After the grinding and polishing process is completed, the piece becomes structurally sound but each of the parts that formed it remains clearly visible.
“I work with glass that has a variety of transparency, translucency, and opacity, the qualities that serve as perfect metaphors for what is known and unknown about life science,” Lee shares on his website.
Lee, who is a professor of art and head of the glass program at Southern Illinois University, has exhibited his pieces both nationally and internationally while receiving numerous awards for his work. His glass creations are also part of collections at the Barry Art Museum in Norfolk, Virginia, and the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, among others. ]]>Calaca is a ceramic artist and teacher from Ukraine currently based in Paris, who discovered ceramics during a school trip to a summer art camp. She was enamored with the idea of playing with clay all day, and something truly magical happened when she decided to give it a shot.
Over a decade has passed since, and ceramics are now a part of her everyday life. She specializes in making anthropomorphic sculptures that look straight out of this world, but they’re rooted in our reality.
“They started their life as flat images on the printed pages, but then they came to life as real and alive as I imagined them… As for me, I even talk to my handmade fellows. We agree on the number of their fingers, the color of their eyes, come up with their past, and discuss their future,” she writes on her official website.
Calaca kicks off her creative process by making a quick sketch before modeling with clay, mixing glazes, painting, firing, and glazing the sculpture to get the finished product. She finds inspiration everywhere from anatomy books and Victorian fashion catalogs to the natural history museums.
