The post Ali Beckman Creates Entertaining Illustrations Using Real Insects appeared first on PlayJunkie.
]]>Beckham uses real insects as the main characters in her popular series of entertaining illustrations. The series includes amusing cartoons, funny puns, and deep-thinking comics, and all of them incorporate bees, ants, flies, and other insects in some way.
It is important to note that Beckman doesn’t kill insects to use them in her works. According to the artist, all of the insects that make it to her illustrations are either purchased dead, donated dead to her by other people, or found dead in nature.
Beckman, who was always fascinated by insects, initially started making insect-themed art as a hobby. She later decided to share some of it on Instagram and received positive feedback from social media users. This encouraged her to keep creating, and it led to a mega-popular Instagram page @soflytaxidermy that is currently followed by almost 180k people.
This isn’t a surprise, as Beckman’s works are entertaining to both insect lovers and people who are not fond of them. Let’s check out more of them below.

]]>It looks, however, that Thunberg isn’t just beloved by media, activists, and common people but also serves as an inspiration for artists around the world. One of those artists is Argentinian muralist Cobre.
Cobre recently finished a massive mural of Greta Thunberg, located in San Francisco. The artist was commissioned by SF Bay Area non-profit One Atmosphere, who donated the paint and the wall for the art. Cobre, on the other hand, decided to do the mural for free in order to contribute to the cause.
“I want to say this is not a political issue, this is a human issue,” said Cobre. “It doesn’t matter what you think about her, this mural is to amplified her message, climate change is real, if we don’t do anything today, there is no future for our children.”

]]>There are several different ways in which Nienartowicz places the works of Caravaggio, Guido Reni Hokusai, and Sandro Botticelli into her paintings but the most intriguing one is placing them as tattoos on women’s bodies.
“By appropriating fragments of these works, I establish a kind of dialogue with their authors, transferring the inseparable thought behind those paintings to my own canvas,” Nienartowicz says about her work. “At the same time, placing them in a completely new context, I deprive them of their original meaning and transform them into an artifact. This ambiguity is what I love.”
Another characteristic of Nienartowicz’s works is their hyper-realism. The artist pays such attention to details that it’s easy to mistake her pieces for photographs. Only when you look at them closely, you begin to realize that’s an oil painting in front of you.
Check out some of Nienartowicz’s paintings below.

]]>The museum provided Noir, who was one of the first artists to paint on the wall in 1984, and STIK with two sections of the original wall to create artworks on them.
“Thierry and I met in Berlin in 2012,” said STIK. “Although we are from different generations, different countries and different backgrounds, we have both chosen art to communicate our feelings about the world around us. Our collaboration is painted on two original sections of the Berlin Wall which inspired the composition.”
After being finished, Noir and STIK’s artworks were displayed in front of the Imperial War Museum of London until December 1st.
The installation is accompanied by a team of volunteers who will speak with the visitors about the Berlin Wall, its history and fall.

]]>Nilsson’s works are highly realistic and contain an impressive amount of details, including the face structure, eye color, and even facial hair. He is able to recreate the face with high accuracy thanks to several scientific methods, including recreating of the bone structure and measurements of the tissue depth of the face.
“By using this forensic technique, it makes it possible to see what an individual looked like, even though there are thousands of years between us,” Nilsson explained in an interview with My Modern Met. “It’s a way to make history more intimate, emotional, and personal, and a way to feel closer to the individuals.”
Nilsson’s list of face recreations includes a young woman who has lived around 5,500 years ago, a Neanderthal woman who lived 50,000 years ago, and Swedish Viking from XI century. Take a look at these and more sculptures below.

]]>Greenpeace Russia teamed up with Isobar Moscow to launch EarthApp; a project that shows the effects climate change and global warming might have on Earth’s beautiful landscapes if things don’t change soon.
Some of the locations that received EarthApp treatment include The Arctic, St. Petersburg, and Lake Baikal.
“Climate change gets harder and harder to ignore: we see how the weather changes, how ecosystems more become unstable. And when users post their “oldified” faces, a question appears: what is going to be around us by that moment? How the world changes when we look like our portraits from FaceApp?” – Isobar Moscow’s Diana Volkova said in a statement.
