Two Street Artists Paint on Parts of the Berlin Wall for 30th Anniversary of its Fall

The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the division of Germany for 28 years before being brought down on November 9, 1989. In order to commemorate the anniversary of the fall, the Imperial War Museum of London decided to recruit street artists Thierry Noir and STIK for an intriguing art project.

The museum provided Noir, who was one of the first artists to paint on the wall in 1984, and STIK with two sections of the original wall to create artworks on them.

“Thierry and I met in Berlin in 2012,” said STIK. “Although we are from different generations, different countries and different backgrounds, we have both chosen art to communicate our feelings about the world around us. Our collaboration is painted on two original sections of the Berlin Wall which inspired the composition.”

After being finished, Noir and STIK’s artworks were displayed in front of the Imperial War Museum of London until December 1st.

The installation is accompanied by a team of volunteers who will speak with the visitors about the Berlin Wall, its history and fall.
