]]>Nowadays, he does just that through his fashion label. Based in Stockholm, Josefi launched his first collection in 2010 and had shortly afterward won the first installment of Project Runway in Sweden, held in 2011. With an eye for fashion-forward design and sophisticated tailoring, combined with high technology and innovation, Josefi has received several prestigious awards since.
Striving for innovation, his brand created the first 3D printed shoe in the world. In 2015, they also started to use a laser technique as treatment of their jeans to lower the use of chemicals and water. Now, their goal is to be 100% sustainable.
“I approach designing clothes very scientifically,” he says. His own personal style is monochrome and comfortable. “I sometimes borrow clothes from my wife,” he admits. “I cannot be bothered to think about what to wear so much when it comes to my own style.”

]]>She hasn’t looked back ever since. The founder and creative director behind her ready-to-wear label, she is first and foremost a womenswear and print designer, with additional experience in costume design and bespoke bridalwear.
Her inspiration comes from conceptual themes and architectural perspectives, aiming to create a carefully balanced mixture of powerful grunginess and a nordic minimalistic sensibility. It’s a delightful mixture and one that has caught the attention of fashion magazines as well as celebrities.
“It is such a satisfaction when you are creating a new collection, especially when it falls perfectly on the body or when the prints come out beautifully,” says Körner. “When you love what you are doing it doesn’t feel like work and you can work late nights with no problem. However, it is a very tough industry and people are going to criticize your designs. It is a lot of pressure (especially starting your own company) and it’s an intense schedule during the whole year. That’s why it’s important to find balance.”

]]>Having exhibited her work around the world, including in the Venice Biennale, she has also worked commercially, collaborating with brands like Nike, Google, Penguin, Adidas, and the likes. Based between Barcelona and London, she draws from her tropical upbringing in northeast Brazil, as well as her travels around the world.
“My work represents where I come from, who I am and how I currently see the world,” she told The Wild Magazine, adding that amongst the many things that drive her artistic creativity are music, cinema, fashion, museums, patterns, a walk by the beach, mid-century artists and makers, as well as a healthy competitive drive.
But when it comes to her style, she admits that she’s drawn to a lot of clashing theories, like Minimalism and Postmodernism. She’s also very much drawn to palm trees. “I love palm trees, I have a deep intrinsic relationship with them, to the point of choosing to live in Barcelona because of that common link with my tropical hometown,” she relayed. “I also love Finnish design and architecture, I think they usually find the perfect visual balance between serenity and busy-ness!”

]]>“I love working with individuals who see the world as something to contribute to rather than take from,” Shaw states on his website. “My favorite work is helping people take their wild ideas and turn them into tangible experiences — and bringing creativity, impact, and delight into each experience that is made along the way. To me, the beauty of brand identity design is not in any one single expression of the work, but in the magic of how it gains momentum when it all fits together.”
Talking about his background with The Design Kids, Shaw admitted that it was his love of infinite detail that ultimately led him into design, rather than a studio art. “I actually went into college pursuing studio art,” he said. “But one day, one of my professors approached my drafting table in a painting course and, in front of the whole class, said – and I kid you not, this is verbatim, because I have never forgotten it – she said: ‘Watching you try to create art is like watching someone drive nails through their fingers.'”
That remark stuck with him. “What she meant was that I was too tight, too obsessed with detail, and too focused on getting things absolutely perfect. And she was right. I was not mad; I think it steered me away from something I just did not have in me,” he explained. It was soon after that it all clicked and Shaw realized he could actually make a career out of graphic design. He hasn’t looked back ever since.

]]>Born in Colombia and raised in the Sunshine State, Elsa spent her childhood exploring her abuelo’s mango farm, and sneaking off to play soccer with her cousins. The visual influences of Elsa’s tropical upbringing are reflected in her use of color and pattern, and her love of folk art and spicy foods — all sources of great inspiration.
“There isn’t a lot of creativity on my mother’s side; they’re small-town farmers, and art is about the least important thing to them,” said Elsa in an interview with The Great Discontent. “On my father’s side, there’s much more creativity in the traditional sense, but he wasn’t in the picture after I was 10. That said, art and design has always been a part of that culture. Pre Columbian art is everywhere, though no one really sees it as art. It’s almost as if it’s just a part of the fabric of the country. I grew up exposed to it every day, but didn’t necessarily think it was special; it was just there, in the background. But as I get older, I can see that it was likely an influence.”
Tyler, on the other hand, discovered the wellspring of joy and inspiration that comes from being amongst nature and wildlife in Vermont, while exploring the many trails on his grandparents’ property.
“I’ve been into art as long as I can remember,” he says. “I’m not sure if that’s related to growing up in Vermont, though, I do think my family had an influence. My dad’s side of the family is artistic—his aunt would create different handmade Christmas ornaments every year, and give one to us. One year, she bought an old, broken piano and tore it apart to make little creatures out of the piano keys. They were the coolest things.”

]]>Her love for design culminated in high school when she took a design class and learned Photoshop and how to make websites and logos. But in college she took a different route, studying first international business. “After multiple economics and accounting classes, I realized business wasn’t for me and I needed to do something creative,” she recalled. “I finally discovered graphic design through my counselor and switched my major to it, and was also able to learn a little industrial design as a study abroad student in London.”
She’s been hard at work ever since, focusing mainly on graphic design and user experience design, but also illustrating. Filice’s work colorfully explores her inner and outer worlds, admitting to enjoying visualizing the invisible, and helping people move forward into the unknown.
“There’s a common thread that has run through my work all the way back to when I was a kid, but it has evolved over time as I’ve grown,” she says. “Stylistically, I’ve always had a simplistic approach, using bold colors and linework. I think my style is quite friendly and approachable while trying to explore deep ideas.”

]]>Her fashion brand, Slashed by Tia, was created from her dorm room during the summer of 2017, using her art history background and passion for the Renaissance period as inspiration.
Talking with NBGA about her artistic background, she recalled that while growing up in Nigeria she used to make clothes for her dolls from traditional fabrics her mother had.
“Also, when I was 13 I interned with a Nigerian designer named Ituen Basi who is pretty cool, she has dressed Michelle Obama and a few other women,” she added. “And yeah, it’s something I’ve always been interested in and kind of done. It’s not something I woke up one day and was like ‘I’m going to make clothes now.’ But I’ve always been really into clothes.”
And going forward, she admits that what motivates her most is getting her parents’ approval. “Honestly, what inspires me is just impressing my parents, you know, my parents are African, so they’re not really into the whole fashion thing,” she said. “But obviously, they’ve definitely seen growth and it’s exciting when I can tell them things that have happened that they actually know about, or like working with platforms they’re familiar with, that’s always really exciting and it pushes me to do even better.”
