]]>Cyd launched her sustainable apparel brand in 2020, and she saved over 3,000 pairs of jeans destined for a landfill in years to come. Her brand Cydsline is dedicated to crafting timeless accessories from recycled materials, and there’s a reason why she decided to focus on working with denim.
“With one million pairs of jeans thrown away each year, I wanted to build a fashion brand that was part of the solution, not the problem. Denim is such an amazing material to upcycle and give a second life,” she explained on Instagram.
Most of Cyd’s designs take the shape of handbags, and they’re made of many different types of denim. She also enjoys making cross-body bags and larger tote bags.
Cyd started Cydsline because she wanted to show that fashion doesn’t have to cost the Earth, and she eventually quit her corporate job to run her eco-friendly brand full-time. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but she has come a long way and even met King Charles while exhibiting her bags at one of the local markets in London.

]]>Hopefully, when we do resume traveling, we’ll do so with more awareness. “Reducing your carbon footprint can come in many forms, and even small steps can have a significant impact,” writes Alison Abbott from Green With Renvy—a platform dedicated to eco-friendly travels.
Her platform is a thought-out teaching tool that aims to help travelers to consider alternative destinations and adventures when planning a vacation. It also points out the importance of mindfulness in traveling.
“I focus on eco-friendly and responsible travel,” Abbott further explained in an interview with Travel Awaits. “With over a billion people traveling, it’s important to know where your dollars are going. A few simple steps can help to make the industry and destinations a lot more sustainable.”
According to Abbott, the last 40 years has seen tourism grow from 189 million people traveling the planet to over one billion, and by 2030, that number is expected to reach 1.8 billion.
As we begin to get vaccinated and travel gradually eases up, now is the time to take some crucial steps so that our choices align with our eco-interests and values.

]]>“Scrap Art” is a company that turns scrap metal into beautiful sculptures that will take your breath away.
“Since 1988 we have been working in the recycling industry. We resolutely believe our efforts will result in an eco-friendly approach and cleaner environment, at the same time bringing to life unique works of art,” the company wrote on their website.
So far they’ve made a giant globe, bridge, fountain, wine decanter and a smart bench that will provide anyone with light, a WiFi connection, and USB outputs.
“Our vision is to make people happy when they first lay eyes on our art compositions. We want everyone to remember that our environment is one of the most important things in our life.”
We will argue that the best kind of art is the one that’s beautiful and useful at the same time.

]]>Mi Zhou is one of them. He’s enrolled in the Master’s degree program of Central Saint Martins Material Futures and he came up with a creative idea to change the plastic toiletry containers into usable products. He makes jars and bottles using soap and his idea is that they can be used just like the plastic ones.

]]>So it’s critically important that we find ways, not just to curb plastic production, but to provide alternatives that are just as useful and not as harmful to the environment. These alternatives should hopefully be affordable enough for businesses of all sizes to make a profit.
L’embeillage is an eco-friendly packaging alternative to plastic that’s made from beeswax. Its inventor, a 24-year-old named Quentin, came up with the idea after meeting a family in Australia that used beeswax instead of plastic in their household. He decided to perfect the formula, using organic ingredients only. The result was his brand: L’embeillage.
Scroll down below to see the many applications of this eco-friendly packaging that, hopefully, could help put a dent into the alarmingly increasing numbers of plastic waste into our oceans.
