]]>Collins describes herself as a petal painter, light seeker, and flower nymph, who’s making magic happen from her home near Seattle. She enjoys exploring the wildflower woodlands around her home and finding tiny treasures she can later use in her art.
“I forage flowers from my creations from foliage and flowers plucked from our sidewalks, meadows, and woods in our neighborhood. I also have plenty of “paints” from my small garden in the city, and my mother’s big rambling secret garden filled with old English roses in the sea town of Edmonds,” she wrote on her official website.
Collins found viral fame with her signature “petal paintings” that see her arranging flowers, petals, and other botanical materials to craft elaborate scenes. It can take her anywhere between 30 minutes and a few hours to finish them up, but the process of imagining each piece is much longer because she has to come up with an idea before she can go out in nature and collect flowers.

]]>In Hybrid Species, Hummel used digital tools including artificial intelligence (AI) to create surreal flower hybrids inspired by real-life flora. Each of these hybrid flowers looks familiar at first glance, but the more you explore their finer features, the more they look to be out of this world.
There are a total of 80 digital flowers in the series, with each one being a mash-up of various floral species as well as other botanical elements. While unsettling at moments, these creations are immensely intriguing and captivating.
“In this series, nature is portrayed not as it is, but as it could be—reimagined, reshaped, and rendered through algorithms. Hybrid Species presents a vision of flora from a parallel world, where nature is captured through a digital lens, without a mirror,” Hummel shares.

]]>These fantasy gardens allow the viewer to get lost in their beauty, bold colors, and complexity, with each flower being captured at its peak and depicted with an impressive attention to detail. There is so much to unpack, explore, and comprehend that you could spend hours watching them without getting bored or feeling you’ve explored everything.
According to Jacob, each one of her paintings is, in some way, an expression of her love for the natural world. Through her works, she aims to capture the “beauty of nature’s evolution” and “the continual cycle of life, death, and rebirth.”
These floral paintings are not just a manifestation of Jacob’s love for nature, but they also have a deep personal meaning for her, being “infused with the rich memories of her childhood, of long evening walks with her grandfather, the scent of orange Champakam and Jasmine flowers at train stations, watching her mother tend to her garden spending a lot of time out in nature.”
