Created by illustrator and writer Dave Blazek, Loose Parts Comics has been entertaining millions of people for more than two decades. They have been published in more than 120 media outlets in the USA and Canada and continue to be featured in newspapers like The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Toronto Sun.
Blazek describes his Loose Parts comics as “oddly intelligent, weirdly entertaining and impulsively funny” while adding that people in them are “dumber than each other” while animals are “smarter than anyone else”.
“It roams living rooms, medieval castles and science labs; it peeks into suburban kitchens and operating rooms and treks to outer space and beyond, all in the search of funny. It views the world from a different angle so you don’t hurt your neck trying to do it for yourself,” Blazek shares.

]]>In his Bummer Party comics, Rusty combines a simplistic but eye-pleasing drawing style with hard-hitting jokes. He takes inspiration from everyday situations that he infuses with big doses of silliness. This includes conversations among friends, menial tasks like cooking, and interactions with people on the internet.
Rusty admits that social media is his favorite subject.
“My comics are largely consumed by people I don’t know and will never meet but who know me. Thinking about that parasocial relationship too much can give you the heebie-jeebies, so I try and process it through humor and comics,” Rusty shared with Bored Panda in a recent interview.
Rusty adds that the goal of Bummer Party comics isn’t to challenge people to think about life or prompt emotions. Instead, the artist just wants to provide internet users with some laughs and brighten up their day. Judging by Rusty’s growing following on Instagram and Webtoon, the platform on which he publishes the comic, he is doing just that.

]]>Wanting to set the bar a little higher regarding her knitting skills, the Amsterdam-based knitter decided to create a doll of her son all grown up, and her ex-husband, who left her after knitting her son.
“I missed him, but I had the love of my knitted son. But when my son also went away to live on his own I thought of knitting a new perfect husband as well. This one is already better than my ex because this one wants to take a selfie with me,” she said in a statement on Bored Panda.

]]>Having earned a tremendous international following on social media, as well as widespread critical acclaim and multiple awards, it’s surprising to learn that Säfström’s background actually lies in architecture. “I have been drawing for as long as I can remember,” she shared in an interview with Lake. “I drew a lot when I was a kid. I had a few years in high school where I thought I was really bad. Then I started studying architecture at university and found myself drawing the scenes around the buildings with MUCH more enthusiasm than the actual houses. Well, one thing led to another!”
Indeed one thing led to another. “I used to work as an architect and illustrating was something I did in my time off work,” she says. “Now that it is my full-time job, I realize, it is much less meditative. Because now the drawings are often commissioned, which is a bit different from just drawing whatever you feel like. It is the best job in the world though. Being an illustrator! My new hobby is taking care of my plants at home.”
Each of her illustrated pieces is made by first drawing a thin outline with a pencil, after which the final drawing is made with a fineliner. Her comic-like illustrations often include speech bubbles. “I think the speech bubbles are a very important part of my work,” says Säfström. “I love combining text with drawings. I often experience something in life and make a drawing of that.”

]]>“I make art in the real world. I love working on prints, paintings, woodcuts, and ceramics,” noted Alcala in an interview with Amadeus Magazine. “However, for commercial and editorial work I usually draw on a tablet in Illustrator.”
His creative process includes a lot of extermination and sketching. “It might not look like it because my illustrations tend to be pretty simple, but the most simple drawing could have hundreds of sketches beforehand,” he notes. “A lot of it is just boiling down ideas until the drawings are totally efficient.”
But though simple, his creations pack a punch. “Ultimately I want my illustrations to have the same kind of impact that a great Mitch Hedberg one-liner joke has, haha,” says Alcala. “Really simple, hits you hard on contact, yet can stick with you for a really long time.”

]]>Bean’s owner says that her pet tasted bananas for the first time when he was about 9 months old. He wanted only a sniff and ended up liking this fruit very much. Now, cats shouldn’t be eating too much fruit, including bananas, so, unfortunately, Bean doesn’t get to eat his favorite treat too often.
“His vet knows about it because we’ve seen her several times this last year or so for his bouts of uveitis that he’s had a small problem with but he’s doing great and it is unrelated. She got quite a kick out of his photos. Banana would be unhealthy for a cat if consumed regularly though. So it’s definitely not a diet staple for him,” Bean’s owner told Bored Panda.
Bean’s other favorite snacks include Noosa Yogurt, scrambled eggs, veggies, and cheese. His unusual taste in food and adorable photos gained Bean more than 11.3k followers on Instagram.
