]]>And so, a love for sewing and embroidery began – one that would eventually culminate in an Etsy shop where she now sells hand-embroidered necklaces and earrings, all made with special care and attention. “I used to work as a freelance photojournalist, but when I got pregnant, my husband and I decided that I’d stay at home for a while and take care of our daughter,” she explained in an interview with the Etsy blog, describing how her career came to be. “About a year after she was born, I started to feel like I wanted to do something creative again. I started making an inventory of my skills and what I’d like to do, and I decided I’d really enjoy working with fabric and drawing and colors. I had a few threads, so I tried embroidering, and it’s cliché, but it was love at first sight.”
When it comes to Thursday More’s creative inspiration, color plays a huge part. she admits she goes color hunting on the internet, saving references on her computer for a later time. Aside from color, her designs are also influenced by her mood, imagination, and memories, making her creations both personal and appealing.
“I try to stitch every day, even just for an hour,” she says. “I like the portability, the fact that I can take it with me wherever I go. It doesn’t require electricity. It doesn’t require the internet. With hand embroidery, you’re just in the moment.” Here are some of our favorite creations by her:

]]>After working some time as a freelance fashion designer as well as a jewelry designer, and even opening her first jewelry business, Shearer decided she wanted to start from fresh, with a new focus. “I wanted a new business where I could apply everything I had learnt, that didn’t show my history of rookie mistakes,” she admits.
That fresh start turned out to be House Of Wonderland — a brand that designs colorful gifts that include greeting cards, enamel pins, phone cases, and – of course — jewelry. “I started the amazing House of Wonderland in 2012, and since then our lives have never been the same,” says Shearer. “My mission ties in with the business name,” she says, explaining that she wants to become the home of wonderful things. “I want people to have something in their lives that they can look at and remember that they are awesome and they have people that love them,” she further relayed.
“I had to start with selling some simple beaded earrings, although completely different to where I am now, it was enough to get through the first few years which were a bit of a struggle,” she admits. “I consider my entire business and a huge achievement! I still find it hard to believe I’ve been able to get where I am today, doing the things I love.”
We’re all for her positive vibes.

]]>Describing her aesthetic as “fun, quirky, bold, and pattern-driven”, Carlson designs her products in multiple color options—the brighter the better! “I want my pieces to be eye-catching,” she explained in an interview with the Etsy blog. “I’m also part Scandinavian and part Japanese, so a lot of my design influence comes from those two cultures. The name of my shop is a mashup of my heritage.”
While the shapes and pops of color are borrowed from Scandinavian design, the subtle handmade intricacies of her designs echo Japanese art. All of Carlson’s pieces are crafted by her, by hand, in her studio. “My background is in apparel design, but I started experimenting with jewelry during a project at school where I worked with repurposed materials,” she explains. “I discovered that by cutting leather, I could make some really nice fringe, and from there I moved on to making earrings. My jewelry-making process is self-taught, but it’s guided by what I was taught about design and construction.”
Sustainability plays a big role in Carlson’s philosophy. Using recycled garments and scraps as the main component of her products she hopes to minimize our carbon footprint as much as possible. ” There’s so much textile waste in the world, so I want to make the most of materials that are already out there,” she says. “When people hear that my pieces are made from repurposed leather, they want to know more about the process and it changes people’s perception of what sustainable fashion can look like.”

]]>“Elysian means beautiful, blissful, and ethereal, and also happens to be one possible origin story for my name, Elyse,” writes Tolles on her website, explaining her brand’s name. “In classical mythology, the Elysian Fields were a dreamed about place of ultimate beauty and happiness, and my personal favorite definition of the word is Ancient Greek one that means “to be deeply stirred from joy.”
“All I’ve ever really wanted is to spend my life making and being surrounded by beautiful things,” she notes, adding that this venture has given her the opportunity to be a part of the transformative effect that can happen when a person looks and feels their best.
Made using polymer clay, each of her pieces is individually designed, pigmented, sculpted, and detailed by hand from start to finish – the antithesis to mass-produced, fast fashion items. It also means that no two pieces exactly alike.
“I’m constantly inspired by the nothing-short-of-magical feeling you get from wearing a gorgeous pair of statement earrings, and it’s my greatest honor to be able to pass that along to you,” says Tolles. Other sources of inspiration are contemporary feminine, all things dreamy and ethereal, and the juxtaposition of modern and old-world.

Reilly Case’s embroidery pieces are meant to be worn around your neck. Inspired to embroider by her grandmother, the self-taught artist revives vintage materials and traditional techniques, but puts her own spin on it. “Embroidery became this mindful experience for me,” she explains on her website. “Something that made me feel uplifted but at ease” Her one of a kind jewelry pieces are sold on her Etsy shop.
Jewelry designers Elise Shatz and Shelby Scudder decided to name their brand “Garbage” as a sort of joke. With their materials being sustainable and with the goal to minimize overproduction and waste, we admit it has a nice ring to it. Their unique jewelry pieces (which include charms and rings) are made to make you feel confident. “Your beauty will never tarnish, and your jewelry should be no different,” they write on their website. Every component is sourced in the United States and assembled locally in New York’s jewelry district.

She also runs a YouTube channel where she often posts detailed tutorials on how to make something on your own. She goes through the whole process – mixing substances, creating bases, shaping, drying, and decorating.
Some of her most beautiful pieces are hair ornaments made of shells, or small, elegant necklaces with pearls and stars glued on the glass. There are also wooden jewelry boxes and mobile phone cases decorated with doughnuts and biscuits that seem edible.
We were fascinated with her works so we decided to share them with you and if you like them too, try making some yourself, it’s not hard!

]]>Inspired to embroider by watching her grandmother working fabric and thread, which seemed like water through her hands, Case picked up a needle and an obsession began! “Embroidery became this mindful experience for me,” she writes on her website. “Something that made me feel uplifted but at ease. I’d become so connected to screens, to work, to getting it all done; embroidery was able to be the antithesis of that.”
“There’s something so very special about fabric that has been delicately hand embroidered,” she reflects. “Especially vintage pieces. Knowing the amount of time and love that has gone into it, I think seals it with a bit of magic. I fell deeply in love with the pieces but also the process: sitting on the couch with a cup of tea, a cat on the lap and a needle and thread in hand. It became such a mindful practice for me. Something that I genuinely need to do to feel centered.”
Now, just as grandmother had done before her, Case stitches her cares away. “If you are looking for something to give you a moment’s peace; Something to focus your thoughts when they are spinning and the world seems so busy, embroidery is a lovely place to start,” she writes.
Her modern hoop art and one of a kind jewelry pieces are sold on her Etsy shop, but you can also enjoy her work from afar by following her Instagram page.
