]]>This 26-year-old artist enjoys doing makeup for others and helping people feel prettier, but her true passion is using her own body as a canvas and creating stunning illustrations using makeup tools.
“I have loved art ever since I can remember. My creativity rocketed when I realized that my greatest canvas was my own body,” she explained in a recent post on Bored Panda.
According to Toma, she initially obtained a graphic design degree but wanted to give makeup artistry a chance. It wasn’t long before she discovered all the possibilities that makeup offers, and this prompted her to start making illusions and experimenting with visual effects.
Toma’s creations are super-impressive, coming with close attention to details and being very convincing. This is especially the case with some of her scarier works, which look like they came straight out of a horror movie.
“Makeup is my passion and definitely one of the best ways to express myself and show my creativity to other people,” she concludes.

]]>It was only when she started working at a piercing studio that she became interested in make-up. After an uninspiring data analyst role, she finally decided to pursue her makeup interest and enrolled at the London College of Fashion at the age of 23. “During my second year I stopped attending so I could concentrate on networking and shooting to build up a portfolio,” she says. A decision that turned out for the best.
Now, she’s a sought after make-up artist traveling the world with clients that include Kenzo, House of Holland, Browns Fashion and Opening Ceremony. Her work is predominantly within fashion, but there’s also a crossover into celebrity and music. “Each day is genuinely different,” she says.
“The industry is really fast-paced and the pool of talent is huge, so you have to keep up,” she stresses. “It’s important to develop a style – a brand even – but at the same time you need to be versatile and ensure you’re not alienating certain audiences.”

]]>British make-up artist Isamya Ffrench admits that making people pretty isn’t her thing. She’d rather use her models as canvases, upon which she paints. The result is both striking and eerie, attracting brands like M.A.C Cosmetics, Junya Watanabe, and Chloé.
“I’m just not solely interested in exploring what we are commercially fed as ‘beautiful’,” she once said in an interview with Forbes. “I have my own instincts about beauty and what moves me and that’s what I pursue.”
Eszter Domonkos’ makeup art focuses mainly around the eyes, adding a dose of playfulness to her eyelids. “I’ve always had an obsession with eyes, I just think they are beautiful,” said the Hungarian makeup artist in an interview with Office magazine. If you’re looking for a last-minute Halloween makeup look you’ve come to the right place.
We’ve never seen someone take to color as much as Lottie does. Known only by her first name, the self-made makeup artist incorporates glitter and neon into her eye-popping looks. Her clients include megastars like Drew Barrymore, Rihanna, and Emilia Clarke. Take note!

]]>In order to create this impressive lip art, she developed a special technique which is similar to those used by tattoo artists. Kelly first draws big lips on a piece of paper and then lays the image on them. After figuring out the proportions, she sketches out the desired scene or a character on temporary tattoo paper before transferring it to her lips. From there she colors the image with liquid lipstick and ends up with a true small piece of art.
“My technique has certainly evolved. I definitely look back on my earlier looks and cringe a bit,” Kelly said in a recent interview. “One thing that’s remained pretty consistent is the content. I love playing with trends and pop culture references.”

]]>“My path was not a straight and easy one, I started wanting to be a graphic designer and in a roundabout way through an internship at a magazine for design I discovered that being a makeup artist was a real job outside of retail,” she said in an interview with the Reed Clarke blog. “From that point, I knew design was not my goal anymore and I did what I could to become a makeup artist.”
Working in fashion shows in New York, Milan, London, Miami, and Los Angeles; and collaborating with giants like Urban Decay, Benefit, Calvin Klein, and Marc Jacobs – Lottie has clearly made it. She’s also worked with some of the world’s biggest celebs including Drew Barrymore, Rihanna, Paris Jackson, and Emilia Clarke, among many, many others.

]]>“I think pushing the boundaries of society’s beauty standard is very important,” stressed the young creative in an interview with Something Curated. “I think being able to express myself in this medium, being a foot smaller than the average model’s height and not having a professional modeling background, is what thrills me the most. I’m happy to see more and more media representation of people who, like me, have found their light.”
More than 100 thousand fans follow her transformations on Instagram, and her striking persona has led to artistic collaborations with brands like
Opening Ceremony, Milk Makeup, Obey, and Drink This Milk.
“The initial transition from modeling as a hobby, to a career, happened organically,” she admitted. “My main goal now is to add to the representation of Asian Americans.”

]]>Moving to New-York in 2013 at the age of 19, with barely any English, she studied art and fashion before launching her own YouTube channel, dedicated to the art of makeup. It wasn’t long before her makeup career skyrocketed, and in 2017 she was crowned the global beauty director for Estée Lauder.
“Makeup is actually not as superficial as some might assume,” Violette said in an interview with Inside Out magazine. “On the contrary, there is a very deep psychological connotation to it. It is a tool that impacts who and what we see of ourselves in the mirror.”
Nowadays, she shares her makeup hacks on her Instagram page (in addition to her YouTube channel), where she has amassed more than 300 thousand dedicated followers. Check out some of her tutorials below and see some examples for her eye-catching (albeit minimal) makeup looks.
