]]>Bruno is a French contemporary artist that specializes in a specific kind of surrealism. He creates oil paintings and prints of contorted, distorted animals.
Bruno started painting and sketching at an early age and had always known he’d grow up to be an artist. One day, about ten years ago, he felt an urge to grab a canvass and draw. From the very start he was drawn to surrealism – he wanted to depict the madness and weirdness of the world around him with a brush and some paint.
Soon he started gravitating toward animals and developed his unique style. His purpose is to get the viewers involved in the work by questioning the reality around them. The paintings depict something very familiar and mundane – animals – but in an absurd way. By distorting something so familiar, Bruno is able to reinvent it and create something new and exciting.
And if that’s not incredible enough – Bruno is almost completely self-taught! When he decided he wanted to pursue art, he started attending workshops to work on his sketching and drawing skills. But other than that – he did everything on his own. To get better at oil painting, his preferred medium, he used books and looked at famous oil paintings in museums. It took him a while to get really good, but today his art is as well-made as it is interesting and weird.

]]>Surreal is definitely one word to accurately describe Howlett’s paintings, but his oil canvases let loose a handful of other qualities; one of them being sheer talent. It’s not hard to see that the artist is incredibly skilled, which serves as a solid foundation for the radical creative adventures he takes.
Whether it’s a young woman who seems to be “fused” with the branches of a tree, or giant humans roaming around grandiose natural landscapes, Howlett cleverly designs his pieces in such a way that everything seems organic.
His art, while surreal, still has a quaint softness to it. It doesn’t ever feel off-putting or harsh, a goal that many other radical painters tend to strive for. Rather, Howlett strikes a perfect balance between imagination and foundation, and it’s not hard to see why his work is so popular.

]]>“I work with these models. I don’t paint from a reference found somewhere on the network. I spend days with them. For bigger paintings, I set up the whole scene in my studio so that they could always come to see the finished piece,” the artist told Bored Panda.
He began painting when he was only a little boy; his talent was discovered by his primary school teacher who helped him deepen his knowledge of practical skills in oil painting.
Lechoszest’s art incorporates traditions, rituals, classical clothing antique objects, and if you look closely, you will see elements of impressionism and abstraction, as well.
He shares images of his creations on his Instagram account where he has attracted more than 120,000 followers. Scroll down and check out his paintings below.

]]>Being a passionate camper and hiker, he is mostly inspired by discovery, nature, energy, sociology, mythology, and the realms in-between. Recently, he surprised his fans with a series of nightfall trees.
“The sentiment for the series also has to do with the season. Fall is often associated with colorful foliage, which is best seen during the day,” the artist shared on Bored Panda. “But fall is also a season about transition; heading in for the long nights and bone-chilling cold. These paintings reflect on being ready for what’s to come and like the trees knowing we’ll get through it. There will be blossoming once again in the spring.”
Besides doing his paintings, Doyle also illustrates books and book covers. He also enjoys crafting images for card games, greeting cards, album covers, theater and concert posters, etc.

Campbell was born in New Zealand, where she finished art school. She lives in the United States since 2003. Her works were exhibited all over the world and made their way to art collections in more than a dozen countries.

]]>There are several different ways in which Nienartowicz places the works of Caravaggio, Guido Reni Hokusai, and Sandro Botticelli into her paintings but the most intriguing one is placing them as tattoos on women’s bodies.
“By appropriating fragments of these works, I establish a kind of dialogue with their authors, transferring the inseparable thought behind those paintings to my own canvas,” Nienartowicz says about her work. “At the same time, placing them in a completely new context, I deprive them of their original meaning and transform them into an artifact. This ambiguity is what I love.”
Another characteristic of Nienartowicz’s works is their hyper-realism. The artist pays such attention to details that it’s easy to mistake her pieces for photographs. Only when you look at them closely, you begin to realize that’s an oil painting in front of you.

]]>Das likes to say he tells open-ended visual stories with his paintings, taking several different elements and putting them together to serve a central idea.
“I think these images I create are a kind of Rorschach test for the viewer: it always depends on how the viewer perceives the symbolism he sees,” Das told Skarno in a recent interview. “We have this instinct for seeing patterns in everything and we sometimes regulate our lives around these signs. Recurring archetypes on my paintings are about the unknown, transformation, cycles, anima, animus, etc. If the painting gives the viewer a cathartic feeling while looking at it then I’d have done my job well.”
Another impressive thing about Das’ paintings is the fact that he uses only four colors: Titanium White, Cadmium Red, Yellow Ochre, and Ivory Black. This limited pallet is his homage to Swedish artist Anders Zorn.

It is certainly this luminosity one of the features that prevails in my art.”

]]>Some of her oil paintings are embellished with gold leaf, taking inspiration from religious art, while others feature unfinished faces partly obscured by abstract, naive shapes, like out of focus, nameless objects.
In a captivating recent series of hers, Pass painted miniature portraits of a single gazing eye, some of which were places inside tiny golden boxes. Based on Georgian lover’s eye portraits, these pieces have an eerie feel to them, inviting you to a staring contest in which there’s one clear winner.
“If the intent of portraiture is to capture the subject in their truest sense, I am then a kind of anti-portrait maker, passing my own subconscious judgment on an unknown face and inviting the viewer to then do the same when faced with the finished piece,” writes Pass on her website.
“I have become fascinated by the range of responses to each face – what one person sees can be in complete contradiction to what the next sees. Sometimes these reactions can be clearly explained by the individual and other times it is something visceral that can’t be placed. The piece is then no longer about the face looking back at us, but about the feelings that it stirs and what those feelings say about us.”
Take a look at some of her work, but beware – it might just look back.
