The cats and dogs in our lives are far more than just domestic pets — they are family.

Theresa Furrer realized the special place that most animals have in our lives and wanted to commemorate this for their owners. As a proficient knitter, Furrer drew inspiration from her name and decided to incorporate the fur of pets who had passed on into garments for their owners.

Her company, Nine Lives Twine, uses dog and cat hair to make a yarn called chiengora. The idea first sprung when the Pittsburgh resident lost her cat in 2012 and waited months to get her beloved pet’s body returned from a taxidermist. She then began making her own wearable items using the fur from late animals so that their human family can have something of theirs during their grief.

The 45-year-old has managed to create hats, scarves, pillows, and bracelets, with her claiming that poodle hair is the most difficult to work with.

Everyone has days that life gets in the way and they run late for work.

If you’re lucky, you might have a kind, understanding boss. But, if we’re honest, those are rare and most people you report to would have major issues with you turning up late for work.

A woman in Oklahoma at least tried to come up with a good excuse as to why she didn’t pitch up on time: a flat tire. The unnamed lady sent her boss a picture of her wheel which very clearly had a nail sticking into it.

The only problem? The photo was clearly photoshopped!

Both the nail and the tire appear heavily edited which did nothing to convince her boss. Her colleague, however, saw the humor and decided to post the image to social media.

“My co-worker called in (yet again) and said she had a nail on her tire that caused her to have a flat. I need everyone to stop what they’re doing and zoom into the nail in the picture she sent to my boss,” wrote Sydney Whitson on Twitter.

Users could definitely identify with the situation as the post went viral, racking up almost 250,000 likes and 46,000 retweets with many adding their own humorous responses!

Two decades ago, Kalina undertook a project which finally came to a conclusion on January 1st, 2020.

Every single day, for a period of twenty years, Kalina would take a selfie. As normal as “taking a selfie” now is, he was doing so before the term was even a thing! 7,263 photos were captured between January 11th, 2000 and the first day of this year.

Kalina compiled all the snaps into a single video, running 8 minutes long, to illustrate just how much a person can change and how quickly life can pass you by if you don’t take advantage of it…

There is a new planet roaming around our solar system.

Pluto was officially downgraded from a planet to a star in 2015 and some people have still not managed to get over it to this day. But Pluto best move over because there’s a new planet on the solar block.

“TOI 1338 b” has been discovered via NASA’s citizen science project entitled Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). According to research, it is approximately 1,300 light-years away from Earth and orbits two stars in the constellation Pictor.

What is even more remarkable is that its founder is a 17-year-old intern named Wolf Cukier during his first week.

“I was looking through the data for everything the volunteers had flagged as an eclipsing binary, a system where two stars circle around each other and from our view eclipse each other every orbit,” said the high school senior. “About three days into my internship, I saw a signal from a system called TOI 1338. At first, I thought it was a stellar eclipse, but the timing was wrong. It turned out to be a planet.”

The teenager has co-authored a paper on the discovery, which is currently under review.

Some might say that the game of cricket is for the birds.

Played over 5 days by men all wearing the same color and sometimes no one even wins; that is what a test match is effectively like. England is currently on a tour of South Africa where they are playing against the national team, and while the sport may not be for everyone, they certainly have one consistent fan.

Viewers who have tuned in to the series thus far may have spotted a local bird known as the Hadeda roaming the pitch at Newlands. Renowned for its high-pitched call which has frightened many tourists (and even locals) at dawn, the creature is part of the Ibis family. The bird’s presence on the field in Cape Town has had to stop play on more than one occasion, with commentators taking to give the visitor a name — Harry. And because South Africans are known for their world-class senses of humor, Harry the Hadeda now has his own Twitter account.

The page is filled with poems and other tidbits written by “Harry” himself. He will be missed when the players move on to Port Elizabeth…

At 7-years-old, most kids are learning to read, still fascinated by Paw Patrol, and draw people with lines for bodies.

But Mikail Akar is not your average 7-year-old.

The German kid as an incredible talent for combining colors on canvases that have led him to being labeled the “Preschool Picasso”. His first work of art 3 years ago was so impressive, that the boy’s father was convinced his wife had painted it. Now Mikail is exhibiting his pieces at private galleries in Berlin, with one of his favorite “techniques” being punching the canvas with his dad’s boxing glove.

So does Mikail see himself as the next Jackson Pollock? Not quite… “When I’m older I want to be a football player,” he says. “Painting is quite tiring for me. Sometimes it can take a long time… especially with boxing gloves.”

Currently, some of Mikail’s work has fetched up to $12,000. That’s a lot of pocket money.

Acres upon acres of trees and plants have been destroyed, leaving those animals who have survived with very little to eat. Thankfully, people are coming to the rescue.

We’ve all done it. Squeezed out a bit too much toothpaste in the tube and decided to play around a little… The bathroom mirror is usually the likely target for our spur-of-the-moment creative whims, but what transpires is typically a few curse words or something that looks as though it has been drawn by a 4-year-old.

Xiong Qingzhen’s paintings have that quality at first glance. The Chinese artist uses the enamel paste to create images that can appear rather sloppy and a bit childish. It is only when the lights go out that his masterpieces truly come to life.

Using a technique inspired by film negatives, Xiong has managed to create pictures of celebrities that look like giant photographs — drawn from toothpaste! The material is admittedly difficult to work with due to its consistency and its fast-drying action which renders it difficult for Xiong to edit the piece as he goes.

That said, his magnificent artwork definitely elicits a smile!

A recent marriage proposal has made us believe that fairytales can really come true.

Lee Loechler proved himself to be the modern-day prince as he planned to ask his girlfriend to spend forever with him in a way that would melt any heart who grew up watching Disney. Sthuthi David has always loved Sleeping Beauty, so when her high school sweetheart decided to pop the question, he did it in a way that happened “once upon a dream.”

Loechler, who is a filmmaker, spent 6 months working with an animator to make Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip look like the couple and illustrate a scene that saw the prince propose after he woke up the sleeping beauty. Loechler had also filled the audience with the couple’s friends and family (as well as a few random Reddit users so it wouldn’t be too obvious).

“The only thing better than seeing the smartest person I know completely dumbfounded was knowing we’d get to live happily ever after together,” said the real-life prince.

Now that’s what we call a fairytale ending!

Wigs have been around since the ancient Egyptians decided to shave their heads and put on headdresses to protect themselves from the sun, but these wigs are unlike anything you’ve seen before.

A pair of artists have created new wigs that are challenging what you ever thought paper was possible at creating. Using perfect white paper, Asya Kozina and Dmitriy Kozin twist and turn the sheaths into pieces that are inspired by Baroque and Rococo wigs.

“Our creative process always begins with making sketches of our ideas, or even writing them down and discussing them together,” Kozin said. “Then we research the subject and start the actual work. We may change something in the process, but in most cases, we know what we want and move towards our goal. It is great to be completely absorbed in the project and to work around the clock. Pizza is a given on those days.”

Some of the Ukrainian-Russian duo’s most elaborate creations feature images of swords, ships, planes, and buildings.

Talk about carrying the weight of the world on your head.
