The post Irene Meniconi’s Watercolor Art Puts Animals Front and Center appeared first on PlayJunkie.
]]>Meniconi is an artist from Florence, Italy, who’s lived in close contact with nature for as long as she can remember. She’s on a quest to blend into its very essence through her art, out of the world of men, and she describes her watercolor paintings as a hymn to rebirth and celebration of life.
Most of her paintings put animals front and center, and she hopes they’ll inspire people to search within themselves and embark on the inner journey.
“As the bearers of her story the animals, finding themselves in them Irene speaks. They are strong, diverse, sunny, and dark. ‘Animal beings’: constantly changing forms, muscular masses, physical and psychological characteristics, bearers of sensitivity and strength, of concrete and a spiritual aspect,” she writes on her official website.
Many of Meniconi’s paintings explore the incredible diversity of the avian world, but birds aren’t the only subject she enjoys exploring. We’ve seen her represent many other animal species in her unique style, ranging from insects and fish to horses and wildlife.

]]>Through her studio Bear&Bean, named after her cats Bear and Bean, Barnes creates adorable embroidered pet portrait patches. Pet owners can place a patch on their bag or piece of clothing and feel like their beloved pet is always there, watching them.
Best of all, these patches feature stick-on backing, meaning you can place them on any fabric without stitching. Barnes also embroiders the patches directly on pieces of clothing if her customers prefer that.
While Barnes has been passionate about animals and art for as long as she can remember, she started creating embroidered pet portrait patches almost by accident.
Her husband was cleaning out his closet and didn’t know what to do with one collared shirt he didn’t wear anymore. Barnes decided to stitch a pair of kittens on the collars and share it with social media. It wasn’t long before people started asking if she could do their pets on collars as well and she hasn’t looked back since.
Just one glance at Barnes’ previous creations and it becomes clear how much effort she invests into these patches. They are masterfully created and strikingly resemble the pets they are based on. Check out more of them below.

]]>Bowie is an adorable rescue dog from Colorado, who became somewhat of a local celebrity after joining his owner during his Uber rides. Kevin Ferman adopted him about two and a half years ago and started doing Uber rides with Bowie by his side because he felt he would put a smile on everyone’s face.
Bowie was just five months old when Ferman adopted him from Albuquerque, and he felt bad leaving him at home. He started taking him on rides in an attempt to help him combat pretty bad separation anxiety, and it was a true miracle to watch him open up around people and become more social.
Bowie became an overnight sensation after the YouTube clip titled “Bowie’s Uber Vlog” went viral last spring. This marked the start of an epic adventure and Bowie kept riding along with his owner, earning himself the nickname “The Uber Dog” and attracting millions of views on social media.

]]>The “Ugly Dog Competition” is organized by the photography company Parrot Print, and it’s all done in good fun. According to the company’s official statement, they’re on a mission to celebrate every dog – no matter what they look like – because there’s something beautiful about every pooch.
One of the previous winners Peggy became a bonafide superstar after winning this competition and appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine earlier this year. Muppet, the 12-year-old Chinese crested dog from Peterborough, is her latest successor after winning the competition this year, over a decade after his brother Mugly won the ugliest dog competition in 2012.
Muppet’s owner Bev Nicholson described him as a “wonky little rescue dog” with missing teeth whose “beautiful inside and out.” Even before winning this competition, he always enjoyed being the center of attention. People often stop Nicholson when she’s walking Muppet to ask her for a selfie with the pup, who became a true sensation thanks to his quirky hairstyle and a tongue sticking out of his mouth.

]]>Bruce was just three days old when Herrera welcomed him to his farm, where he lives with his wife and four sons. His decision to bottle-feed Bruce for over two months worked wonders for both of them, and it helped them develop a special bond that will never be broken.
Bruce’s curious and energetic nature inspired Herrera to let Bruce go where no other cow went before him – inside his house. He decided to treat him like a real pet and share their adventures with the world, and he’s using their hilarious videos to make a positive impact and brighten up people’s day.
“I don’t really want it just to get views or just to get publicity or anything, changing people’s attitudes in a positive way is what I’d love to happen and I think there’s so much negativity online and it’s nice to have something different every once in a while,” he told 13 Wham ABC.
Despite having the time of his life living with Bruce, Herrera doesn’t recommend having a pet cow. He warns that most cows aren’t as friendly as Bruce, and keeping them indoors is impossible because they need a lot of room to be happy.
