Irene Meniconi’s Watercolor Art Puts Animals Front and Center

Irene Meniconi’s art is deeply rooted in the many ups and downs she faced on her personal journey. She managed to overcome many obstacles on her path by immersing herself in nature, and she eventually decided to make animals the focal point of her magnificent watercolor art.

Meniconi is an artist from Florence, Italy, who’s lived in close contact with nature for as long as she can remember. She’s on a quest to blend into its very essence through her art, out of the world of men, and she describes her watercolor paintings as a hymn to rebirth and celebration of life.

Most of her paintings put animals front and center, and she hopes they’ll inspire people to search within themselves and embark on the inner journey.

“As the bearers of her story the animals, finding themselves in them Irene speaks. They are strong, diverse, sunny, and dark. ‘Animal beings’: constantly changing forms, muscular masses, physical and psychological characteristics, bearers of sensitivity and strength, of concrete and a spiritual aspect,” she writes on her official website.

Many of Meniconi’s paintings explore the incredible diversity of the avian world, but birds aren’t the only subject she enjoys exploring. We’ve seen her represent many other animal species in her unique style, ranging from insects and fish to horses and wildlife.
