]]>“I love the finickity little details that go into my job,” she gushed in an interview with Linen Beauty, “picking out the prettiest leaves for the top of a salad, carefully segmenting citrus with surgical precision and the regular challenge of wrangling a linen napkin into a seemingly natural but picture-perfect positon beside a plate.”
Unsworth recalls being passionate about the details and thought that go into making a photo-worthy meal long before it was her actual job. “Even as a child I loved soaking in the atmosphere in restaurants, obsessing over every little detail and specifically chose to study languages at school (Italian, French, Spanish) from countries whose cuisines I liked the most,” she recalls.
Nowadays, the majority of her time is spent alongside cooks, photographers, and writers, making sure their set and dishes are properly styled so that a certain atmosphere is presented, alluring potential customers and foodies. With clients including brands and publications as big as Twinings, Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, and The Guardian, she clearly knows what she’s doing.

]]>In Halpern’s case, throwing society’s expectations out the window meant leaving her corporate job in fashion at the end of 2015 to go on a year-long round-the-world adventure.
Little did she know that this spontaneous adventure would end up changing the course of her career and reshape the way she thinks about work and life as well. Nowadays, Halpern’s goal is to help others realize their dreams. Her motto (and subsequent blog name) is “Live Like it’s the Weekend”, and doesn’t it sound nice?
“For me, living like it’s the weekend means saying yes to opportunities and invitations because I have the freedom to do so,” explains Halpern. “It means taking spur of the moment adventures to discover something new and beautiful because I don’t have to ask anyone else’s permission.”
Halpern’s optimism is refreshing, especially given the circumstances. In a recent blog post, where she recapped 2020, she reflected on the year’s little joyful moments.
An avid traveler with over 40 countries under her belt, Halpern didn’t let 2020 stop her from exploring, though these explorations were largely restricted to her “backyard”, meaning California.
“This year made me appreciate how much there is to explore in my own backyard and it showed me that even when travel fully opens back up again, I don’t need to take a 13-hour flight to arrive somewhere incredible,” she observed. “There are still so many destinations on my own California bucket list, not to mention just a short drive away in other states.”
And looking ahead, Halpern admits she’s willing to tweak her lifestyle to allow some time for family gatherings and reunions.
“While last year seemed to smash down a lot of my big travel goals, this year I’m going into the year taking a different approach to what I want to accomplish,” she writes. “I also want to work at putting more boundaries in place when it comes to balancing work and play.”
Her blog is a great teaching tool for people looking to spice up their daily routines and truly live like it’s the weekend.

Her platform is a thought-out teaching tool that aims to help travelers to consider alternative destinations and adventures when planning a vacation. It also points out the importance of mindfulness in traveling.
“I focus on eco-friendly and responsible travel,” Abbott further explained in an interview with Travel Awaits. “With over a billion people traveling, it’s important to know where your dollars are going. A few simple steps can help to make the industry and destinations a lot more sustainable.”
According to Abbott, the last 40 years has seen tourism grow from 189 million people traveling the planet to over one billion, and by 2030, that number is expected to reach 1.8 billion.
As we begin to get vaccinated and travel gradually eases up, now is the time to take some crucial steps so that our choices align with our eco-interests and values.

“Skimbaco is modern carpe diem,” she explains on her website. “Skimbaco is the nordic lifestyle of having guts to go after your dreams, and finding happiness in your everyday life.” Not just sisu, hygge, or lagom, Skimbaco (explains Presnal) is a combination of all of these qualities.
The term itself is a made-up combination of “Skimba” (a Finnish slang word for a ski) and “co”, which stands for Colorado, as the brand was launched in 2007 when Presnal lived in Durango, Colorado.
“Skiing in Colorado was our way of living life to the fullest back then,” she recalled, “but Skimbaco is enjoying the moment where you are—you define your own skimbaco.”
She stresses that Skimbaco doesn’t mean skiing in Colorado, but rather living life to the fullest, enjoying every minute of it, and doing what you love. “When you are in Colorado—ski, when you are in New York—go shopping or to museums; whatever you do, enjoy the moment, live life to the fullest and enjoy the moment,” she writes.
But how do you live in the here and now when there’s a global pandemic? In a recent post, titled Thriving Despite the Chaos – It’s Possible, Presnal writes: “This year has been a sum of multiple unfortunate events, but in many ways, we have been able to turn the obstacles into opportunities, a theme that seems to be constant in my life. And that’s what I want to share with the world too. My methods of how to come out as a winner, despite what life throws at you.”

]]>Almost two years ago, cat lover Mike Wilson and his girlfriend Megan Hanneman decided to adopt a new cat. They already had two cats and wanted to add a new member to the family. When they got to the local shelter, they immediately fell in love with a gentle giant named Bronson. Bronson was a ginger cat who loved to play with humans and to cuddle. But he had one small problem – he was huge.
Bronson’s inactive lifestyle and fondness of food had resulted in an incredible weight increase – he weighed 33 pounds at the time, about three times more than average! Luckily, Mike knew exactly what to do. He makes his living building cat furniture design to promote activity for indoor cats. He wanted to help Bronson live his life to the fullest, so he and Megan took him in and immediately started working to get him to his goal weight, with physical exercise and a special diet.
Today Bronson is down to 21 lbs, and is becoming more active every day! his new physique allows him to move around more easily and enjoy life to the fullest. He still has a long way ahead of him, but with Mike and Megan’s support and dedication, he is sure to reach his goal and be the happy, athletic cat he can be!
. . He's recently started jumping up to this shelf after eating and doing a really long stretch as he scratches the sisal pole. Although I just missed it when I started recording, I caught him being incredibly cute. . . If you turn the volume up, you can hear Bronson’s “I’m gonna bite you” noise.
. . This “trust circle” has been the only thing holding Bronson back from indulging in the other cats food. This first picture was just prior to him breaking new ground. This was the result of one too many treats being tossed out of his reach. . . Look, we realize Bronson’s a champion and understand he fully deserves to be able to bask in the new opportunities enjoyed among the skinny cat community. With that said, we're not looking forward to rearranging the furniture on our wall, but we’re going to have to if we want to stop this stronger and more charming version of Spider-Man from quadrupling his daily calories. . .

But the multi-faceted creator didn’t have it easy from the get-go. “I grew up in a country where art was respected but not revered which then led me to treat the arts as it had been painted: ‘Art is a hobby; it doesn’t put food on the table,’” she recalled in an interview with Create & Cultivate.
“I picked up a camera when I turned 15 and never looked back,” she said. “I enjoyed documenting life and the beauty that I saw in things that others didn’t deem as beautiful. As time progressed, I fine-tuned my work, studied what I liked about photography, and executed my vision.”
“Through my work, I’m able to offer a different perspective on how people may perceive their everyday ‘norm’ and that to me is what really makes it all magical,” she said.
