]]>“Creations from man-made objects discarded as refuse and reinterpreted to form objects found in nature are the inspirations for my art,” he states on his website. “The simple spoon forms the body of a rainbow trout; a discarded children’s toy becomes the foundation for a moose; horseshoes transform into armadillos.”
Consisting of primarily wood or metal, the reclaimed objects are transformed from their mechanized human intentions into organic figures found in nature. “I look for these shapes buried within objects,” Lyons further explained in a piece he wrote for Artsy Shark. “I then utilize these shapes and reinterpret them into the anatomical structures that make up the organic sculptures I create.”
According to Lyons, through his inherent passion for the discarded object, he has developed a unique perspective and talent to visually dissect, reinterpret and then repurpose the materials found in his sculptures. “I look for the potential in every object to be a valuable contributor to the sculptures I create,” he says.
Because, ultimately, who’s to say if a spoon handle isn’t actually a bird’s wing waiting to take flight?

]]>Her installations include colossal sculptures of animals and humans. These sculptures aim to stimulate the viewers’ imaginations while offering scope for reflection about our state with the natural world. Inspired by the dramatic Tasmanian landscape, Parer’s artwork explores the natural world, it’s fragility and the role of humanity within it.
“I use feral animals in my work as a metaphor for man’s mismanagement and overuse of the environment,” she explained in an interview with Kaltblut Magazine. “I am interested in how easily we anthropomorphize to tell our stories without fully acknowledging that we are animals too.”
When the audience visits one of these ephemeral art installations they are enticed by the play of scale, light, dark, drama, and humor. “I live in an island state in the south of Australia called Tasmania,” says Parer, explaining that “it is a land of great dramatic beauty with moody skies and landscapes and holding narrative qualities that I like to thread in my work. Light coming through the darkness depicts a sense of hope or spirituality.”
Her art installations have been on continual display since Parer first moved to this art form in 2014 and has so far been exhibited in 100 cities around the globe, as they continue to capture public and media attention where ever they go. But you can also follow her work online. Take a look:

It’s also important to bring attention to these animals, their mysterious beauty and the extinction they face.”
Horses, eagles, rhinos, lions and other animals are all carved by the tools that are handmade by the artist himself.

]]>Since 2011, Bordalo II has been working to make recycled materials into sculptures, often incorporating mechanical elements and instead of heading to the art supply store he just collects common trash and turns it into amazing works of art. His materials come from city dumps, such as the working parts of toys and clocks, damaged bumpers, burned tires and scrap iron.
Big Trash Animals is his compilation of large-scale sculptures who depict animals made out of recycled materials. Through portraying them, Bordalo II draws attention to the problem of waste and pollution made from the materials that are responsible for the destruction on the planet.
“My idea is to depict nature itself, in this case, animals, out of materials that are responsible for its destruction.”

]]>“The Washed Ashore Project works to increase awareness of the global tragedy of plastics pollution in the ocean,” reads their website. “We accomplish this by collecting marine debris through beach cleanups and community workshops. The collected trash is used to create large scale sculptures of sea life threatened by marine debris. The sculptures are created by volunteers in our workshops and staff under the direction of Angela Haseltine Pozzi our Artistic Director and Lead Artist.”
Over 10,000 volunteers have helped clean beaches and worked with Washed Ashore to process over 20 tons of debris into over 70 sculptures of the animals affected by plastic pollution. The organization also partners with schools, state parks, service groups, youth centers, and local businesses to spread the word about the dangers of plastics pollution and to teach citizens to become better stewards of the ocean.

“Plants and animals have always been the surface on which humans have etched the foundations of culture, sustenance, and identity,” the artist wrote on her website. “For myself, natural forms are a continual source of fascination and deep aesthetic pleasure.”
The result? Eerie looking creatures that will mesmerize you. “Many of these components are microcosmic representations of plants, animals and objects,” writes the artist. “Some are beautiful, some are grotesque and some are fantastical.”

]]>The tradition of weaving can be traced back to ancient times. This art form is also considered as one of the most common crafts in the history of humans. The oldest weaving baskets ever found were created more than 10,000 years ago. Artists all over the world today are also helping to keep this age-old tradition alive. British artist Anna is at the forefront of this campaign. She is also known as Anna and the Willow.
Fortunately, this artist doesn’t stick to just baskets; she creates woven sculptures with intricate designs. She has been practicing her craft for more than ten years now.

]]>According to the artist itself, each detail of the animal’s fur and feathers has a hidden meaning.
“Each detail, down to the finest filigree, is free-modeled by hand. Within each piece, precision is balanced by chaos.” – said Ellen of her work. “The overarching aesthetic knocks on the door of realism, yet the hand of the artist is never intentionally erased; brush strokes and fingerprints abound. Even the narratives themselves harbor a degree of anarchy as they are rarely formally structured. Rather, I seek to achieve flow states while working to create a fluid progression of unconscious imagery.”
