Artist Uses Seashells as Canvases

Mary Kenyon also known as rtistmary on Instagram is a Placerville, California-based crafter who loves using seashells as her canvases. She makes beautiful decorative dishes that look like a piece of ancient treasure that can be found on sunken ships.

The self-taught artist describes herself an arts and crafts junkie, because, as she wrote on her social media, it has been in her blood since she was a little girl. Mary inherited her love for art after her late father who was an oil painter and leather carver. When he passed away, and left her all his paints, brushes, leather and tools, she decided to join her passion for art with the love for vintage things.

Mary’s artworks are made by decoupaging an image onto the real seashell’s surface. Then, she carefully paints small decorative details in brass or Swarovski rhinestones.
