Brazilian Embroidery Artist Uses Dried Leaves as a Canvas

Embroidery art can take many different shapes and forms, and Laura Dalla Vecchia decided to explore it in the most natural way possible. She’s using dried leaves as a canvas for her intricate embroidery creations, which usually capture the endless beauty of the Brazilian birds.

Vecchia is the founder of the embroidery brand Leveza Art, but don’t expect to find any regular botanical hoops on her Instagram page. She became a true sensation with 140,000 Instagram followers under her belt once she decided to put an eco-friendly twist on traditional embroidery and use dried leaves instead of fabric.

Vecchia’s decision to put nature front and center in her work isn’t a huge shocker since she used to be a biology student before turning to embroidery. Her art perfectly captures the fragility of nature because stitching things together on dried leaves doesn’t come easy, and she sometimes even incorporates tiny branches into her art, making it even more impressive.

Birds are the most common subject Vecchia enjoys exploring through her art, and she’s a true master when it comes to capturing their vivid colors and playful spirits. She enjoys paying homage to the native Brazilian species, in the hope her art will raise awareness about endangered species in desperate need of protection.
